My girlfriends pre-built system has been dead for sometime now and i've only just gotten around to having a look at it and i'm thinking it's a dead mobo.

Here's what happened: It worked fine for about 9 months when it started not booting past the windows loading screen which could usually be fixed by a dirty restart.

Then it started requiring a full shut off using the PSU switch. We attempted to get it back to the shop but the week we were going to drop it off it started miraculously working perfectly and that last about another 3 months until right about the time the warranty ran out at which point it stopped booting all together.

When the power button is pressed the CPU fan kicks in but the disc and hard drives don't spin up. There is no beep from the mobo only a constant red light on the front of the case.

I've tried the usual things: Leaving it unplugged, using different kettle leads, switching the ram in to different slots, etc

What topped it for me was when i removed the ram altogether and there was no "no memory" beep from the mobo.

Just wanted a confirmation from you guys. Does no BIOS beep's mean dead mobo?

    Thanks as always!

    Sounds like it to me.

Either that or its shorting somewhere.

Possibly try running it outside the case before buying the new mobo, just incase.

Thanks man. I'll need to remove the mobo anyway so i'll pop it out and test it.
