because it started of talking about lasers your absolutele right, except about the bit where scientists think there isnt ET life.. From what i hear there is ALOT of sceptisism and only those more open minded scientists belive it! NASA obviously dont because they dont spend any money on SETI or programs like that, just spend there billions on moon rocks and suchforth, and finding water on mars! I hope they do turn there ideas around, i wanna be a physisist, and i dont wanna go into a place where people are all non belivers in all tis star trek stuf i know of hyperspace, but i didnt know it meant that... what does it mean, and is that theoretically possible ?
but all of them should have it, it should be complulsory so the general public dont miss out on the light humming action
I don't know any websites on Hyperspace. I saw a Horizon on it a while ago which basically said yeah it's theoretically possible that there are loads of parralell universes that exist in hyperspace and also that's it's theoretically possible to have 11 dimensions.... And BTW if you want to be a Physisist I expect it involves loads and loads of maths and thinking and more maths rather than inventing ways to make Star Trek more of a reality..
yeah, i know that I wanna be a physist workign as an engineer, so I start off thinking, woo hoo, i wanna do this. Then thinking how it may be possible and experimenting on little things like a photon, seeing it work on going, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, becaus ei just spent about 10 years trying to get a photon going faster than your average photon thats the plan anyway, im learning electronics at college and intent to keep going at university (so itll be more like a physics and electronics (and problalbly maths)) course. If anyone has done somethign along these lines i would love any info you have to offer
going offtopic in the other direction: does this stuff really works? ( http://www.amazing1.com/hyp.htm ) I mean, can I use it for example to study more intensive and get better grades? /me thinks of the possibilities mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
nothing, offtopic using the url given in another post and damn, I wished there was a quick and expensive fix for it
just to get back to the high power laser thread... a really high power laser to cut/melt metal at long range (like 200km plus) doesn't just need to be HUGE but needs uber-complicated optics to focus the beam. If not, the laser has to keep cutting a hole through the air as it is unfocused and tracking so power is lost through that.... guzzler
Laser about the powerfull laser they already have extremely powerfull laser I dont know the technical term for them but they cut true thick steel and are extremely precise they are used to make cutouts that are EXTREMELY precise , so for some stuff they need to be that exact and also for laser surgery .. but those are alot less powerfull I saw in a documentery that those powerfull cut lasers , go true a 3 inch hardsteel plate in a couple of seconds (just a whole in it) but those lasers are pretty big (not extremely , U can fit in a large car , probebly , but u'll need a hell of generator to power it but to make it portable , is not for right now i'm imagining little kids that are playing ont he playground with lasers , and suddenly one kid has a powerfull one and cuts true other kids ....
about the mars bit... Let's say we melt the water that's there and/or bring water... as it evaporated wouldn't that stabilize and cool the environment? So to get the stuff at the pole to melt it would have to be moved elsewhere on the planet... Feel free to correct anything here, I'm thinking as I go Now, say the atmosphere is created and water is flowing about again... There used to be this little ball out there called Earth, millions of years (supposedly) after water began flowing on Earth, life started popping up... What if... Just a thought...
Welcome to Ubermich, Lovah & Relix, this forum needs the imaginative voice of unreason. Can I suggest a 317T in seroies with a properly sized thing would do it cheaper with no risk of an ATX supply tripping out?
On the TV tube there is infact a uhm (dunnow how these things are called in enlgish) but a high Intesity voltage thing but thats just a very big amount of voltage , not ampérage because its created out of a normal 230 V (here) 50Hz Source U dont need the extremely high voltage u need LOADS of normal power , huge ampérage So here in belgium , u have the normal power net (230V 50Hz) but u also have "strong power (lol) , thats 380V and I think its also 50Hz , not sure though so lets say we use that and with big big wires like ... to give an example a lamp uses 50Watt's a electrical heather , about 3000-4000Watt's (I'm talking about a big one to heat up a nice sized room) uhm , an iron is probebly about 1600-2200watts (just guessing here) and I think a powerfull laser would be about ... uhm Dunnow ... 50000 - 80000W atts ? so , about the amount of amperage P = U * I 80000 / 380 = 210A (uhm , a computer uses about .. 3A (Anybody can correct me if I'm somewhere mistake , (all this electricity theory is far far in my head) so , the power plug of a Tv a tv is lets say ... 500W .. (just a guess , have no idea actually) so 500W = 230V * ?? I ===> I = 2.17A so if the tv tube thing , has a high voltage , lets say 5000V (just guessing again) it would only be I = 0.1 A so 100mA so that aint enough for anything ... I think the high voltage is needed for the gas in the tube and stuff ... well these are my thoughts so ... If you have a HUGE power source (not an unpossible thing.....) Like most big factorys have loads of them .. even big business building have them (alot of electricity needed for all those coffee machines , computers, lights , tv's , fridge's ..... so the powering is no problem , exept when making it portable .. a big (in the normal catagory) , power generator , gives about 4000W (just enough to weld) but an industrial big power generator , probebly give about 40000W (the ones you see on festivals the normal one : can fit in ur trunk ... or on a passenger sheat .. its not big at all ... its about as big as a TV but the industrial one , u'll need a truck to move it its about as big as a car ... ok I'm gonna stop now , because I dont know where I started anymore ...
Back to the original topic, IIRC there was a program on the Discovery channel a while ago about lasers and their functions. One of which was combat. Apparently scientists have created powerful lasers small enough to be carried by the average soldier but the weapon was deemed inhumane and was never produced on a mass scale (or so they tell us....). I find this really ironic as a type of projectile weapon which when shot at a building (from up to a mile away) will kill all humans (by burning them to death) yet not damage any part of the structure, is currently in its final stages of development (by the US military of course) ready for the 2010 mark. Go figure.
????????????????, really ??? thats true ?? but the heat would make other tihngs in the building catch fire aswell ? with cause to burning the building down ?? I did hear about 'pain ray's' , this is something totally different , but also a weapen It already exist but it isnt usable just yet , but I assume they probebly olmost finished it by now it was portable on a normal sized tank and it looked like a satellite dish but it makes some kind of wavelengt , wich kills a human being , without ever touching them , it seems to destroy the brain , by making some bloodthings burst open in your head .... it had a pretty long range , and can easily kill all the people in a building without every harming the building , or its interior in a big way ... but there were also some ethic discussions about it .. normal I think , its a horrible weapen but I think that they have alot more then we know about
I'm not so sure on the details because this was about a year ago. What I know is that it's a manned weapon which in theory will only require 1 person. It will use some sort of combustion/fire and will technically 'burn' the victims to death and apparently cause a hell of a lot of pain in the process.
Could it be a microwave type weapon? So the liquid in their bodies would boil and they'd literally get cooked to death, but the building structure would remain unharmed should it be done in a sophisticated enough manner.
ehm.... not so correct... Water reacts to a lower atmosphere passing to the solid state or the gas state depending on the temperature...simply it can't stay liquid... mars has no atmosphere, that's why there is ice on the poles... If they melt it, water will be lost, unless they build some big domes to entrap atmosphere...like in total recall, but without the elder aliens and their big machines... On the fact of life on the Earth... well it's conseguence of a long serie of lucky combinations... not so easy... Editlease stop talking about super powerful weapons of doom... I'm getting paranoid.
