Hi guys. I'm not happy with the loud fan attached to my stock AMD heatsink so I'm thinking about buying a new cooler for my APU. The darn thing is louder than my main rig all by itself!

I'm not really current on heatsinks/fans so I figure I'd appeal to BT for help. My criteria is this:

    Quality manufacturer
    Quiet operation
Fits in ITX boards without blocking a RAM slot
    Inexpensive

I'm thinking about just getting another Coolermaster Hyper 212 but I don't know if anything newer or better has come out. :thumb:

The CM Hyper 212 is plenty enough to cool a stock AMD APU. But you might wanna change the fan to something like the Akasa Apache PWM.

The problem with most ITX-boards and tower-coolers is, that you block the PCIe-slot, so usually people use a top-blower like the Prolimatech Samuel 17, which I have only good experiences with.

Samuel 17 is a bit pricey but if the CM blocks my videocard slot I may not have a choice.

Sure it's not the cheapest, but the 6 heatpipes do a very good job in this cooler.

Looks decent but it doesn't list FM1 compatibility on the Newegg product page.

Could be a good choice then. I can choose an ultra quiet fan for it. I don't need extreme cooling, I just don't want my HTPC to sound like a jet engine.

Does anyone know if the Akasa Nero LX is a real product I can buy somewhere? I can't seem to find anywhere to purchase it even though it was announced last year.

I emailed akasa about availability a while back for my own build and all they could say was q2 2013 (this was in december from memory).

Hmm I'll be sticking with the prolimatech then probably. Want to buy soon, even though the Nero LX looks pretty cool.

Upon further searching I've come across this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103100

Looks like a pretty decent quality cooler, inexpensive, and should service my needs. I like that it's designed to sit high enough to clear RAM heatsinks.

There's another option as well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103177

Smaller and a bit less expensive but don't know if it'll fit my board with the RAM and Videocard.

The CM Gemini S524 is just as good as the Samuel17, but it's taller ofc. If this is no problem then it's a good solution.
