Hey all, Looking for a decent set of headphones around 50 quid (sorry keyboard does # instead of pound sign and @ and " are the wrong way round, American? how do I fix that?!) Everyone seems to love the Grado SR80's but I think 80 (see above) might be a bit OTT for the sake of my house-mate's ears, but yet I love my music and still want a decent level of audio performance, Thanks in advance for replies
Was set to US but setting it to UK hasn't worked? The only one I cant do is the language for non-unicode programs as I need my XP disc supposedly, would that change it?
hmmm good find, anyone know/understand the difference between Grado SR 60 and SR 80's? other than price of course?
You need to go into the Languages tab of the Regional and Language Options window, and click Details. In the new window, select English (United Kingdom) and check in the section underneath that the keyboard is set accordingly. As for headphones: Sennheiser. No doubt about it.
Right okay I've done that, but now it only stays on UK if I leave the Regional and Language Options window open with the UK keyboard profile selected and wont let me remove the US one And back to the headphones, so is the whole Grado's thing kind of just a name thing?
Honestly, there isn't too much between them. I'd say it's worth the extra for the SR80s though. The main difference is the pads: the SR60s come with different pads than the "bowls" that come on the 80s.
I've read Sennheiser's can be far too 'bass-y', with many people equalising the bass out, but then losing out on midtones. Is this true of the sub-£50 end of Sennheiser's product range of headphones?
well the hd555s aren't really sub-50; they retail for about £80-90, but you can get them for £50 on ebay. i have the hd595s and havent really had an issue with them being overly bassy. can't speak for the 555s though.
Ok cool, don't know whether its worth the extra £20 for the different pads, guess its something you'd have to actually try-on to know, looks like I'll probs go for the HD555's when I find the sweetest deal, even on amazon theres an instant £60 saving http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1197308168&sr=8-1 Slightly worried bout the whole 'bassy' thing, I love bass but hate that kind of sterile 'extra bass' sound that you get with some headphones that actually advertise that as a feature on the packaging, just sounds like a 'scooped-mids' guitar sound, anyone that plays guitar will know what I mean
the biggest criticism i hear levelled at the hd 5x5 series is that they sound a little clinical compared to a pair of grados. i don't mind that as i use a pair of in-ear monitors (shure e4s) which are the epitome of clinical so it's all good, but YMMV.
hmm I have had experiance of: Grado Sr60 - very good fun to listen too but uncomfortable and not realistic (but who cares about realism) no need for amp Hd-650's - **** goes in **** comes out sound amazing but only when driven from a powerfull amp and decent source completly usless for portable use Hd - 595 senhisers attempt at copying the grado sound quite percing treble I don't like them Hd - 430's (very old ones) need a beast of an amp to get upto a decent volume but very nice sound till they totaly wore out my Hd-650's are my main headphones but low quality mp3's will drive you insane if you try to listen to them with them so all music I download/encode has to be flac or WAV now.
Cheers for the input everyone, theres a serious lack of good (decent quality) headphone roundups on the net, so really appreciate the help, probably gonna go for the HD 555's the 650's sound good but a bit out of my price range I think, and the word 'uncomfortable' has completely put me off the grado's! Cheers
i had the opposite experience with my sennheisers. i have some low-end tv headphones and they have virtually no bass. the earbuds that came with my mp3 player have more bass. and i'm not a person who likes a lot of bass.
