I've just bought this motherboard for my Phenom 2 955 BE. However I was hoping people could recommend me some RAM for this board. I'm looking for 4GB for now unless there are any good deals on 6GB. I'm after 1600mhz memory really, and have about 80-100 pounds to spend. Cheers Dead beat
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173933 i have the 6gb kit in my desktop. works like a charm at 1600mhz, and comes in at 75 quid. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166998 there is a crucial ballistix 6gb kit for 90 quid
I like the look of the Crucial RAM, but are you sure the OCZ RAM is compatible with an AM3 board? Cheers
it shud be. DDR3 is DDR3 after all. but yeah, the crucial one looks a cracking deal. but be a bit wary because you might have trouble in the future finding a proper match if u ever want to max out to 8gb
The only reason I asked is because in the description, it mentions that it's designed specifically for intel platforms. I take it that with the board I have, I will be requiring 240pin dual channel RAM?
yup. and iv found it even cheaper lol: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-181-OC
cool. you can always get one of these and max it out sometime down the line: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=BL12864BN1608
Yeh I expect i'll probably do that. I've heard quite a few reports of people not being able to run their ram at 1600mhz on this board straight out of the box. It looks like it automatically sets the ram to 1333mhz, and you have to do some tweaking to get the speed up.
That's the same with every motherboard. DDR3 will always always be set to 1333MHz by the motherboard BIOS as a failsafe (that's JEDEC specification), so you have to input the settings manually to run it at 1600MHz. AM3 CPUs have a 1:4 multiplier for running at 1600, so its not too much fuss.
plus the JEDEC spec calls for 1.5v - you usually have to set it to around 1.65v to get the RAM running at full speed.
