Does such a thing exist? I end up gaming on my laptop quite a lot and the mess of cables is quite annoying, my mx518 cable is getting in the way as I have nowhere for it to sit without bunching up. Years gone by I wouldn't have dreamed of gaming with a wireless mouse, but surely technology has moved on enough for them to be good enough for a regular dude playing some FPS really badly?
I use a Logitech MX mouse for all my PC Gaming and it’s great. Tracks on any surface. You just gotta install the software and you can tweak button assignments, tweak acceleration and speed, all per game if you desire, so somewhere in the middle you’ll find something suitable. I’ve actually not used a wired mouse since the Intellimouse Explorer Pro or whatever it was called. Never had a problem gaming at all.
What do you consider breaking the bank? I love the Logitech G602, ended up buying two of them so I could have one at work. Tracking on them appears to be absolutely fine for fps games even on the 'Endurance' power mode. I have a pair of 1700mAh rechargeable batteries in the mice and they last a good 4-5 months of heavy use before needing a recharge.
Well I think my only options are Logitech g403 (as far as I can tell it's the g703 without the fancy new mouse pad charging) or the g603. I *think* the g403 is a better mouse and is rechargeable via a cable while using it, however limited to 22-30 hours of battery life. The g603 uses AA batteries and has some great battery life (500 hours on HI mode or 18 months on LO mode), but obviously requires new batteries or rechargeable batteries to be recharged outside the mouse. The g603 is £14-15 cheaper, but it would be pretty easy to spend that on some rechargeable batteries and a charger. Does anyone have any extra info or experience with either mouse?
How is the shape of the G403 vs MX518? I quite like the shape of MX518 the and I would probably just keep hold of it, but it's pretty old now and for some reason when I left it at my house and either it sat in the sun for a while or my brother used it (or both), the rubberised sides got kind of sticky and I can't seem to clean it to a satisfying level. Either way I "need" a new mouse, whether I just get a wired replacement or go wireless. I don't have a budget per se I just don't want to spend more than I need, it seems the starting price for something worth getting is about £60. I am leaning towards the G603, but if £58 get's me a noticeably better wired mouse then I could be swayed that way.
A corded G402 is highly recommended as a stop gap Matt, I think you can now pick them up for around 35 quid.
Another vote for the G602. It's also remarkably sturdy. I used mine for couch gaming and, without fail, managed to knock it off the arm wrest, or stand up and watch the thing be launched from my lap on to the floor. Only after 2 years of that abuse did one of the mouse buttons occasionally fail to register. Which reminds me, I should hunt it out and see if I can fix it now I have all the tools, and if it is fixable it's going to immediately replace my wired cmstorm mouse.
Thanks for all the input guys, I was about ready to shelf the idea for a little while until after my girlfriends birthday/end of the billing month for my credit card (laptop + holiday + birthday is going to be a big one!!). But instead of that I just pulled the trigger on a G603 as it went down to £49 today making it significantly cheaper than the £72 G403 and £79 G703, and the same as the G602 - I prefer the shape of the G603 and it is a little more subtle looking which works for me. Apparently the HERO sensor is about on par (slightly worse) with the 3366, much better than the 3310 and a lot more power efficient than both, there aren't any solid specs out there but it seems to be suggested that it's an "in-house" sensor built with/by pixart. The added bonus is that it can be used in bluetooth mode meaning my GF can use it with her iMac when she isn't using her graphics tablet. The only negative coming from forums/reddit seems to be saying that the weight is an issue being 112g with 1 AA battery and 135g with 2 AA batteries. I am honestly not sure I could tell the difference and I would certainly get used to be quickly I am sure, worst case scenario some people are using lithium AAs (which weigh about half as much) or even a single lithium AAA with an adaptor to get the weight right down. I go to the gym 5 times per week and move around 100s of KG, I am sure I can handle a couple of AA batteries in pubg for a few hours
Followed up on your advice here and investigated the Logitech G602. Liked the look of it and decided to take the plunge since my old Razer Mamba was playing up. Have to say initial impressions are very positive, it just feels right in the palm of my hand and glides effortlessly. The use of AA batteries is a benefit in my book, as from experience I've always found the use of proprietary integrated batteries to be the downfall of many a good mouse.
