hey, ive just built my new system, see the specs at http://www.warpedvision.net/mysystem/ as you can see, i used a Cheiftech Scorpio but now i want to go for watercooling. Because i dont know if i am good enough to install watercooling into the case, i was looking at getting a Koolance, but then buying the Cheiftech was just a waste of money. What do you guys think i should do ? thanks, .icecube
ummm, you really think so ? if i get a koolance, i get a quiet really cool case, and it dosnt look that bad with the 3 fans on top and that temp display on top. or over time get a nice Lian Li and an Alpha, noisey and not as cool but the case looks awesome. thats my options, place your votes NOW! lol, .icecube
As biggie proved, you can use the Alpha to good effect as a silent cooler. The thing is, watercooling will cost you £150+ for a decent setup, and you still need resonably powerful fans to put air through the radiator. It is also necessary to shift some air through the machine for general ventilation (expansion cards, northbridge, GFX, RAM, hard disks), so you'll never eliminate fans entirely with present high-performance components. My system runs around 0.20-0.22 C/W, which is very similar performance to many watercooling systems. Noise levels are not too bad (certainly quieter than my old FOP38 on its own), and there's plenty more I could do to reduce noise levels, since I have YS-tech fans which aren't quiet.
right, i think with my money, ill mod my cheiftech and get an Alpha/Mechatronix. but i still might get a Lian Li or a Koolance, still havnt made my mind up completely. .icecube
In cooling terms, the Chieftec provides enough airflow with appropriate fans that the inside of the case remains at room temperature. Adding more fans isn't going to help anymore, because it's not going to get any colder than that. Thus the chieftec is up there in performance with the very best cases (outside of dedicated water or vapour-phase units).
id go for that alpha and then later on you could think about gettin somethin like the coolance or watercoolin.... look at the bit-tech frontpave and u can see what happens when u get a lian li, a coolance case and a koolvin, then stick em in a room together....
ive decided that i will struggle with my Taisol 760 with my cheiftech, and then in the "near" future, get a Koolance. is there any other pre watercooled cases that are around the same price as a Koolance? thanks, .icecube
you do realize that by using the koolance you will void the warranty of your mobo and your cpu... thats why isaac said its easier to just get an alpha and youd get temps pretty close to that of watercooling... why do you want to watercool anyway??? do you overclock much??
not bothered about warrenty to much, how would they proove i used watercooling ? well, i will certainly be overclocking my gfx card, and the CPU when i can get it unlocked. i dont want an alpha because i would like to get out of air cooling and get into water cooling. preferably i would like to do water cooling in my Cheiftech, but it works out more exspensive and i dont think i could do it my self. the koolance looks pretty perfect... i just want to know is there any other pre water cooled cases out there that are around the same price. its an XP2100, so i would really like to watercool it. .icecube
Another point to make is that any expensive cooling is pretty dead-end. There are always different fittings which the systems are made for. The Alpha is made for socket A hole mounting, and fits most boards with the mounting holes, but not all. Pentium 4 uses a different mounting system, and Clawhammer/K8 will introduce yet another system. Is it worth spending SO much on a system which won't last very long? It's not a new phenomina...People bought the Kryotech systems for slotted CPUs, which are useless now of course, because no one sells slotted CPUs for the consumer market anymore. There's a point at which it's not worth spending TOO much on overclocking, because you could just buy something better with the money. The point of overclocking is to get something for nothing. Not to pay a lot for very little.
well if you had to return your mobo or your cpu and they find all that weird goeey stuff over it im pretty sure it would void the warranty.... i heard that the xp2100+ doesnt overclock well....so i dunno whether much is gonna happen there.... http://www.bit-tech.net/article/79/7 <--read there to know why you would void your warranty....
so you guys think i should just get an Alpha 8045, in my Cheiftech ? rather than a water cooled Koolance ? .icecube
get the alpha and then once the new stuff is out ie, clawhammer have a look at the new product that come onto the market... thats what id do....
the thing is, if im gonna get an alpha and then watercooling, i might as well just stick with my ****ing Taisol 760 until then. i think i will use my Taisol 760 and then when ive got the money in a few weeks, get the Koolance. simple as. .icecube
taisol is very good hsf.... do that then, but just think about how long you are planning to keep your cpu mobo for....
a VERY LONG TIME. im only 14 years old, so moneys kinda' hard for me to find, but i try my best to stay upto date. thats why im ****ed off, building this system has lost me around £100. cheiftech scorpio, ill be replacing with a Koolance. (ill put my Celly 500 in this ). Akasa 765 (£7, but hey! (got wrong cooler) thanks flix, .icecube
The XP2100+ doesn't clock well at all, since it's coming to the limit of the Palomino core. Thouroughbred will continue the AthlonXP line until Clawhammer takes over. I don't see how you've lost £100...If money is as hard to come by as you say, why are you so insistent to waste money on an unecessary cooling system?
i want a water cooled system not only for the CPU, when i can get hold of GF4 GPU, i would like to cool that, and the chipset also. i dont see how its a waste of money at all, £175 for a pre water cooled case isnt bad. If ive got the money, ill spend it. lol, .icecube
