I saw that, too. He could've switched the 3d buildings off and had a far more responsive satnav.

Is Navigon pretty good then? I'm in the same boat tbh.

I've got a Go520 which does an excellent job. Also use a PocketPC Phone (for the moment :) ) with TomTom on, which also works very well indeed; so I'm pretty used to the TomTom interface (and find loading the speedcams from pocketgps easy and very, very handy indeed, particularly when combined with the ogg warning files).

However, I'll be replacing the pocketpc with an iphone 3g and obviously need some form of satnav when I'm visiting depots. Speed Camera warnings would also be handy :) I wonder if I can get hold of a Navigon version of the pocketgps speed camera database? Hmm...

Navigon has a 'saftey camera' DB built in, IIRC. Look on the comparison chart that I posted earlier in the thread. It was even telling me to slow down on the M6 as it realised that I'd - ahem - engaged warp drive. :worried::D

It works great for me, and I've come from a TomTom. It's not rocket science using the UI - it's very similar to TT's, just a different colour scheme. And for the same price as the TT UK only app, I got the whole of Western Europe.

Dunno how much it is now though, as I believe I bought it during an introductory offer.

The next update (1.2) will give iPod controls whilst you're in the nav app - this is the only let down I've encountered at the moment. The current version has no way of controling the iPod when navigating, so you have to quit the app, go to the iPod, change track / play list etc, restart the nav app and re calculate the route. It also expands the TTS system to read out the name of roads.

I think the whole google-map stylee flip the page to use the iPod is just inspired. :)

    Hello, forgot about this thread!

Lack of full post code search was a pain, didn't know exactly where the hotel was so ended up driving around Bristol's one way system more than once! On a few occasions trying to navigate around Bristol i got a little lost, taking the wrong lane / missing a turn but i had the voice instructions turned off so figures - eh? I've found the address entry can be a little slow to get going once the app is loaded, a minor problem but irratates me if i i just want get somewhere!

Overall though im pretty impressed and 1.2 does look rather smart with the ipod controls :D

Top Tip - type the first 4 chars of the post code into the City field, and then hit street. Cuts the list of streets down to that area of the town, and you can then just scroll through them to find the correct one.

Hopefully 7 digit PC search will arrive in a future update - but the current pluses far outweigh this little omission at the moment.

This looks interesting, even if it is North America only. Not sure if i'd pay £20 for live traffic in the UK though.

Found this last night. Uses google maps to get postcode then launches navigon with the address you just found. Not made by navigon and does create a little more hassle but not too bad for £1.19.

Just a quick update on this, as the 1.2 update has been released. Still no full postcode search, but I really haven't missed it. Always found where I was going, and if I did stray off the route, recalculated a new route very quickly.

The new iPod controls work great - just as well as I got to give it a real work out on the world's most boring road, (AKA the A14 - Averaging cameras as far as the eye can see... :sigh:) on my way to and from Martlesham Heath and the BT test labs.

Why does one of the largest telecoms companies in the world stick one of their major facilties out in the arse end of nowhere? As my manager commented, "It's at least 3 wormhole jumps to get there"

    :hehe:

I reckon that it used to be a decent place, but since BT moved in they've sucked all the soul of the place away. :D

No cruise control in the Jag GOO?

1.3 arrived yesterday bringing the option for in app purchases. It's £1.19 for the 7 digit digit post code addon. I'm a bit miffed about this, i've already dropped a fair wack of cash on the sat nav software. Why should i have to pay more to get a bog standard feature? Co pilot is a fraction of the price of the navigon offering and comes with 7 digit as standard.

Live traffic is rumoured to be ~ £15, not sure if thats per year though.

Of course, we may have dropped £40 quid for nothing, if Google do get this into the app store:

    http://www.macrumors.com/2009/10/28/google-introduces-free-gps-navigation-for-android-2-0/

Free traffic, voice search - sounds great. Need to see it in action though, and I can't see the video of it at work.

I wonder if it has a local on phone map tileset which only gets updated if you have service? It'd be pretty dumb if it didn't, as you'd still want it to be giving you directions if you dropped out of cell reception.

Even at £40, charging extra for a basic feature annoys me a little. Just watched the video for the Google maps turn by turn navigation. While it looks pretty sweet, it seems to stress 'internet connected' devices followed by a diagram showing maps, voice and google street external to the phone. Still, its a neat application for free! It it caches map data when you enter a route it would be ideal!

WE 1.3 is now available, according to the app update on my phone. No over 3G update though, what with the humungous size.
