Looks great tbh, I like things that look simple and smart (= sexy).

The black and white theme is very nice indeed - might give it ago myself if I find myself with some extra time on my hands!

Ack, shame about the PSU noise! Talking of noisy fans one of mine has gone a little weird on my CPU cooler, it makes noise but if I tap my case it goes away? Sounds like a bearing is going but not sure what...

But yeah, replacing it sounds cool :) White fan in the PSU yes? :D

thanks Ljs! yea definately the simple look appeals to me, so I think most time will be spent on cable tidying and/or getting cables that minimize the amount of routing to be done :)

Oh yea definately white fan in the PSU! Another Sharkoon Silent Eagle me thinks as they are quiet and shift loads of air and look great.

Yea the noise from the PSU may be a bearing actually, not sure, anyway there is quite a bit of work to be done on the PSU; gotta take off the stickers, clean inside, sleeve the ATX/8pin & 4pin with individual sleeving (black/white) and also do the 2xPCI-E with individual sleeving and change the connectors from green to black or white if I can find them and finally creating the sata cable to perfect length. Phew I think that will take some time as this is my main pc.

Anyway onto some pics! So I got my new camera, not an amazing one but still better than my last! So here the pics are:

    The inside so far:

The USB and Power/LEF header cables:

Cable routing so far (still lots of work to do!!)

Well thats it unfortunately. Has been raining so can't do my test sprays :( Hopefully better weather next weekend!

    Looking ace.

A question about cable ties. They are handy, but can be a knightmare to get off if you do want to change something. Why not twist ties instead (or even wrap strap if you can find some) which you can easily remove and replace?

oh i just cut them off with small wire cutters. They are temporary anyway until I get some really nice cable management clips :) I usually don't reuse these as they are too annoying to take off :)

Hah, the cable ties I'm using at the moment are so huge I might look into these alternatives xD

So we've still got terrible weather most of the time; is this why we're seeing a little delay? :)

ah ha, you guessed it! Sorry guys for the delay, last weekend was really bad weather! In fact a lot of places had localised flooding in London. I am hoping for more dry weather this weekend, aparently it will be sunny on Saturday *fingers-crossed*

If the weather holds up, I will be doing a test spray with Hammerite white (hammered) spray as an undercoat, and then some Plasti-kote enamel gloss white. Once this is dry I will be creating a stencil of the titan logo and using Matte black spray for this. Everything is ready and waiting...just waiting for the weather!!!:waah:

If all goes well, I will be painting the HSF as soon as I get another clear day of dry weather. I did do a test spray of the Hammerite already but that was just to see what type of finish it gives.....it isn't smooth yet not matte, so have to sand this down a but with steel wool before applying top coats.

As for progress on other fronts, I cannot for the life of me find D-shaped mini-fit pins that my Cooler Master M1000 uses to connect its modular connectors to the PSU. Have asked in many a forum but no one knows :waah: sssssoooooo I have to change my entire PSU if I want to create a custom Sata Power cable to specific length. I am opting for a Be Quiet! Staright Power 680w Modular OR a Corsair 650w Professional Modular PSU.

Do you think that 650-680w will be enough for an overclocked Q6600? and a 9800 GTX+? Anyway hopefull because I don't want to spend over £100 on another PSU just so I can make a customer Sata power cable.

Anyway thanks for your patients and hopefully this weekend will have some pics :D

Nice progress. That white sleeve looks brilliant.

Here's a word of warning, though. I had that exact same heat gun. A small piece of the ceramic insulator inside the heating tube got chipped out and it ventured inside the blower. The blower jammed and the heating element overheated. :duh:
The gun is now at the bottom of a trash bin.
If you hear a small rattling inside the gun open it up and clean it out before using.

yea thanks for the advice, i was worried that might happen after i dropped it, but all seems ok for now.

On PSU front I think I will go for the bit-tech recommended Antec Trupower 650w. As long as it can give enough power to my system which I will have to test.

Why are you not just cutting and re-soldering or re-crimping the wire from your PSU?

A new PSU seems extreme when you could just cut the wire to the length you want and then attach a SATA power connector to it. Or alternatively cut the wire off a little after the plug and simply solder those wires onto whatever SATA cable you want...

Hey Von Lazuli, yea i did think about doing that but I never soldered before :waah: and not sure that I want to risk my first attempt with my system. :eeek:

I am going to re-crimp but the pins from the connector which attach to the PSU (modular) are D-shaped pins which I can't seem to find anywhere, I think they are unique to Cooler Master :duh: So to make entirely new cables I have to find these pins or find a PSU that uses the regular mini-fit pins to connect the modular cables to the PSU. You see my dilema.

Soldering is easier than you think. Just watch and read a couple tutorials and try it out on some spare wires.

    :worried:

Ok then, i might try to save a bit of cash. But first I'm going to try and stop the noise from my PSU by changing the fan, if that works then I will go for it :D

Nice mod, I like the idea. I should be getting my define r3 in a couple of days, and I am also ordering (seperately) a PSU for somebody, and to tip the price over to free psotage I bought some white cable braiding and heat shrink! Sure will look better than the unmodular, unbraided mess that is my PSU.

    Update 01/09/10

    Hi Guys,

sorry for the long wait. I have been waiting for some good weather here in UK and over the bank holiday weekend I finally got some dry time although dispersed with a few showers :(

Anyway this is my second spray paint test on an old aluminium cd case from muji :D On with the pics

First off applying the primer. As you can see on the right side of the cd case is my previous attempt which failed miserably because I used a stencil made from art card and some lame paper glue to stick it to the primed surface which didn't yeild a good enough stick and the paint blead underneith. Also I applied black gloss which I hated. So this time I primed the surface with Hammerite "Hammered" spray again and sanded down inbetween coats with 400 grit paper. This smoothed the surface nicely (but not enough as you will see later). I also used Plasti-Kote enamel gloss white spray after the primer and applied 3 coats of this.

This was my attempt at saving my painting efforts when there was a shower :D
    [IMG]

Next up was cutting the stencil. I printed out my logo re-draw and using spray mount stuck it to a piece of acertate. Then cut.

Then using spray mount again I stuck the acertate to the primed cd case and masked off all other areas. Sorry for the poor pic the light was really bad in my room and it was getting dark.

Then I applied four coats of matte black plasti-kote spray, leaving 4 hours inbetween coats as it said on the can. And this was the result.

As you can see I didn't sand down the primer until totally smooth which I should have done as this made small gaps between the acertate stencil and the primed surface allowing the black to bleed a little under the stencil. I will do another test next week and sand down properly to get smooth edges.

So next week I will sand down my previous attempt on the right side and prime again, sanding properly inbetween and the final coat making sure it is 100% smooth before applying a gloss coat and then the stencil. Also I kind of hurried the stencil this time as I wasn't bothered with getting this test perfect, but once I get the tests perfect and onto the HSF then I will cut a perfect stencil :D
