I dont like either of them. They both are bad in different ways.

Marquee, I know how you feel.

I can imagine it turning out the opposite, with Dell selling Dell pcs in alienware boxes, with a new brandname, for a higher price. Ugh.

When a company buys another, it is for the good stuff that they do.
Therefore, why all the concern that dell will harm alienware?
Doesn't it just mean that there will be more money and better infrastructure behind Alienware?
I imagine they'd still keep the name.

And anyway, how many of you can actually afford Alienware atm?

Jazzle's right. Alienware are always waay behind with new technology in their laptops and servers (take a look at their site). The Dell XPS laptop is far better than anything Alienware have to offer in terms of looks, size, weight, performance per $ and, most of the time, absoute performance.

Maybe sometimes, but not necessarily. They could be knocking out a competitor?

From Takeovers I've seen its normally been to strip assets from the new aquisiton, keep the customer base and name and replace their smaller bought in more expensive parts with your cheaper bought in bulk parts. So in this case they could supply rebadged Dells as Alienware computers to save costs and get rid of workforce as they already have a large manufacturing line, tech support, distribution network, and cheep purchase arnagments. Means they also get to sell their 'xtreame machines with out the fuddy duddy appearing Dell logo

Is this not just an easy way for Dell to start selling AMD without upsetting anybody - "See Mr AMD, we are selling your products. Of course Mr Intel, Dell will just sell your products"

yeah thats what i was thinking... seems like a good way for dell to get around its purchase agreement with intel to start offering high end game systems with AMD procs, but have the massive support structure of dell behind it

Alienware is overpriced junk anyway. Since when did die-hard gamers buy pre-built machines? Alienware is for rich kids who think they know what they are talking about. Build your own pc with the same spec as an alienware and not only will it be cheaper it will be faster too.

Alienware is for people who dont know tech, dont want to do their own tech support, and want a solid, working, well made machine out of the box, which is reflected in the hefty price premium. Lets not drift in the Alienware bashing direction again; it got very tiresome last time :grr:

There's no point in experienced modders buying pre-modded cases... but we all have to start somewhere - and buying a pre-modded case is probably just the first step on the modding ladder for many

You can say what else you like about them... but I honestly can't understand how you can suggest they're behind the times when it comes to laptop hardware

They were among the first - if not the first - to offer RAIDed HDD's in a laptop!
They were among the first - if not the first - to offer SLi'd graphics in a laptop!
And they were among the first - if not the first - to offer the FX60 in a laptop as well!

    "Waay behind"? Right :wallbash:
    That's not 'fan-boy'-ism btw. That's fact vs fiction counter-arguments :D

In another thread they did, yeah :p
