is the Dell G2210 22" a good monitor I'm in need of a new 22inch display and was wondering if its good or crap
The 2209WA or the U2311 are the monitors you'd want. That's just another run of the mill TN panel'ed monitor. Not that it's bad, but it's thoroughly mediocre.
Well that's the price of a monitor. In fact the only reason why monitor are so cheap, is because of this joke called TN panels. But if you enjoy boring, washed out colors, cheap quality build, in this case not-adjustabel screen. Then be my guest. A descent (not flickering) CRT 17inch monitor was ~450$ Canadian in 2002-2003. That was the price of monitors, and IPS panels, stay in the same price range. Well no, it's MUCH cheaper, but assuming you try to stay in the same image quality (Dell U2410 is similarly priced, but it's cheaper because it's 24inch, 1920x1200, fully adjustable, metal stand, and well you have a bunch of inputs. So you can see, the how TN panels really isn't a good choice, other than for laptops, and casual computer users, and light office work (despite offices getting those, but I think that will change in 2 generations or so, as people get a lot more on computers and know what they get and need) TN panels has been created for low power consumption (read mobile devices and laptops), and for casual computer users (read: using facebook or checking e-mail once a month or general low hours office usage). In the early days, due that TN panels didn't have any color processors, or other fancy stuff, in fact nothing other than a bare bone LCD panel with a bare bone circuit to make it work, it used to be the fastest LCD panel, which gain moment by gamers, despite less colors, lower colors, less sharp image. But today, IPS and PVA panels are MUCH MUCH faster as there were before, to a point that you don't see any difference compared to TN panels. Now, I can't give you any information on the G2210 because it seams to be exclusively sold in Middle East.
Admittedly hwoever, it isn't that bad, but seeing as you can get ANY LED backlit TN panel you could go even cheaper than this.
I have to admit I wasn't convinced about the difference between TN & IPS (well it's just a monitor right?...) until I saved up enough for an IPS panel.... WOW! I have my old TN and my new IPS running side by side and the difference is unbelievable - the TN's whites look pink/greyish in comparison, the blacks look grey and pathetic and the colours are washed out and lack any kind of depth in comparison. I know that doesn't help if you can't save the money, but it's sooo worth it if you can. BTW I have a Viewsonic VP2365wb GK
Meh. I'm sure it's pretty good for what it is. There are plenty of TN panels in the states though, find a local online retailer, see what they have and google some reviews. Please, don't buy into the hype with IPS panels. If you want one, great. I did and now I have two brilliant DellU2311s. But if you're not bothered then you most certainly don't need one. Monitor threads on here really annoy me, it's like a load of Ferrari/Lambo drivers sitting round telling a Ford driver that his car is crap. Usually, a TN is good enough. Or they just wouldn't sell.
No, it's like Toyota/Ford/Honda/Chevrolet drivers, telling a Lada Drivers, that the car he has, isn't good. Yes, the care gets you from point A to point B. But, you get what you paid for.
Tbh, not many people are bothered about the quality of their computer screen unless they're a heavy user (Like Me) i have a U2208 which is still as good today as the day i bought it. Go to PC World or Currys (if you dare) and you will be subject to the cheapest nastiest monitors you will ever set your eyes upon. (I wanted to rinse my eyes out with bleach when i came out) But the avid computer users who want a decent panel ask where to get them. A Ford driver will ask a Ferrari driver what the cars like before he buys it.
But look at the OP. No mention of photo-editing, no requirement for true-to-life colours. The fella just wants a screen. He asks if it's crap and we suggested he gets an IPS (which is certainly the way forward) but he baulked at the price and people are still trying to convince him. You and me can tell the difference and care and so bought IPS. Most people don't and TN is 'good enough'. Perhaps a better analogy (seeing as I'm a musician and not too keen a driver) is audiophiles sitting talking about really high-end amps and speakers, whereas most people just want a hifi, any hifi.
Yes, I think we were a bit too exited. Sorry about that OP. Back to what I said, the monitor is not widely available, so reviews are slim to none. BUT, if you order directly from Dell, if it's like Dell Canada/US/U.K, you have several days to use the monitor to see for your liking (21 days for Canada and U.S). And if you don't like it, a call to Dell, would have them send you via e-mail a pre-paid shipping label, which you print and tape on the box, and call your mail carrier to come and pick it up (if they have that service), or go to the mail location and drop it off for delivery. Of course, confirm all this with Dell over the phone, to ensure that all this is correct for your region.
Well tomorrow before work imma head over my friend bobby's house and look at some of his monitors he has running(2 are tvs the other like 7 arent) i bet my gpu he has ips monitor and a tn one so ill take a look at it and maybe decide. If i get the TN well that means more money to speakers
Well i know 2 of his tvs r hdmi and i believe 1 of his monitors are i no the rest are dvi. Also if your wondering he has more then one computer 1 is a gaming one with eyefinity, then a htpc,a downloading pc(pointless to me) then he has a nas and then a computer that his guest use which is also a gaming computer but its like 3 years old now
Okay just got back from the house and it was like compairing a 720p telly to a 1080p led telly there is much noticeable difference! I will b looking at a IPS panel todays payday and that means shopping before work haha
Best to know what your budget for your monitor is and then we can give you a good idea of what you could be looking at.
I have 2 dell g2410's and there not crap there pretty good monitors, there the bigger versions of the g2210, of course a good ips panel is better but your paying for the extra quality
Well the ones at the local shop didnt see as impressive but they had a g2210 for 110 dollars so i grabed it ha
