My friend is configuring a Dell Inspiron 530, and he's getting 3gb od ddr2 667, a Q6600, but I told him to skip on the 8600GT as the highest card and buy a 8800 GT off of Newegg for a similar price and install it himself, but the thing that worries me, will the PSU in the Dell handle it? I've read somewhere it's 300W, I think that was the 531 though, not sure, online resources aren't much help. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...k_number=17970705&dgc=CJ&cid=24471&lid=566643 I'm not sure why it's so cheap, I haven't been buying parts recently though, so maybe.
Important notice, this computer is the low end of Dell, therefore, expect it to be noisy and have a cheap case. Also, I suggest to go with 800Mhz RAM instead of the 667Mhz The best thing you can do, is do a online chat with Dell. Just ask the specification of the PSU, and if you can use your own PSU, also see if it voids the warranty.
I've got one under my desk. It's really quiet and the case is well made, apart from the plasticy drive trays. I wouldn't recommend one as a gaming machine. Build one for your friend from components, much better.
