haha I figured I would post about this as it was kinda funny.

So in September of 2012 I was constantly back and forth between my mother's house in West Sussex and my (now) fiancee's house in Dorset. Due to this (and the fact we weren't supposed to be in Dorset very long) my fiancee bought me a laptop. It's a Dell M11X MK1 or R1 whatever you call it. It was brand new from the Dell Outlet and had 2 years and 10 months of their protection. Due to the warranty it wasn't cheap (£450) but it was new and the warranty made me feel safe. I didn't really want it for much more than browsing and surfing ETC.

Any way, since day one when I ran a game on it it would just overheat and either freeze or shut down. This didn't really matter as by that time I had bought over my Alienware desktop so was gaming on that..

Last year (November) I decided to get Dell out to look over it as the warranty expires this year (the 16/05/14). By that time the space bar had given in to my constant slap battering and it needed a new keyboard. The technician came out and replaced the keyboard but the lights in the replacement are a bit screwed so blue = pink. It turned out to be a loose membrane that can't be fixed as it's in a glue sandwich. The technician said he would get them to come back with another one (it works for typing brilliantly). Then he looked over it and said that the sensors were all duff. Not only did the fans just permanently sit idle (causing it to get hot fast) but the lid sensor was knackered too. Basically if I close the lid and re-open it it just hangs on a black screen and won't wake up.

Any way I moved house a few days later, and although I got a few phone messages from Dell trying to sort it out I couldn't respond to them nor the emails. I was just too busy moving chit..

So today I figure I'll phone them and get it sorted out before the warranty runs out. I phoned them up and it resulted in a nearly three hour long phone call to India. I gotta say, it was fun though :D

First thing the tech said that yes, he acknowledged the keyboard needed replacing. However, the a-hole tech forgot to fill out a report on the status of the rest of the laptop and thus he could not replace the board. I was a bit pissed, but figured I would just play along and spend as much time getting it sorted.

So the tech says he wants me to install some software so he can look at the laptop. I say fine.. We go through that and he connects and takes over. He installs GPUZ and Coretemp

LOL I didn't know that Dell relied on Techpowerup :hehe:

So then he says that I am using Win 8.1 so he can't help me. I say hang on, there's bugger all difference ! so he tried to download and install 3DMark 11 (god they're techy lol) but it refused to run due to a DX11 issue. So again he tries to get out of it. I say go to Nvidia and install the bleeding drivers, man.

So he gets the drivers on but 3dm11 still wouldn't play ball. So I says look install Unigene Valley....

So we install Valley. He can see my desktop, I can see Valley. The GPU temps started at around 60c and started climbing fast. All of a sudden the GPU hits 95c and he loses control of the laptop and starts yelling "OH NO !! OH NO !" :hehe:

Thankfully I managed to close Valley and he concluded the board sensors are all buggered lol.

The upshot? new keyboard, new motherboard, new heatsinks and fans.

    Noice !

Yeah it was actually pretty cool to hang out with an Indian dude for a while lmao.

His reaction when the GPU almost cooked itself was hilarious hahaha.
