Recently my contract ran out so it was time for an upgrade. Initially I was dead set on getting an iPhone 4 but with them being so hard to get hold of and suggestions of signal problems I started to look more carefully at some of the alternatives. I thought carefully about what I actually use my phone for and realised that I actually do very little phoning with it. I do however use it to surf the web when my main rig is off and for gps so what I really wanted was a big screen.

Today I bought a Dell Streak and I fricking' love it the 5in screen makes the web much more accessible than it was on my 3G and it's fast, much faster than the 3G. So Id like to suggest that anybody currently yearning for an iPhone 4 at least play with an android phone, the competition has certainly caught up with apple and maybe surpassed them in this generation.

I saw this and read a little about it and have to admit I was impressed with what was on offer. Before my first iPhone (2007, Gen 1 model) I carried and used a Dell Axim X51V every day, and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. A little PC in my pocket! Then the iPhone came along and blew it and the rest of the PDA & smartphone market out of the water. I was wondering around the time that iPhone 3GS was launched whether Dell were going to enter the smartphone market with their ample experience in the handheld touchscreen device market, and found rumours that this was on the way. It looked and sounded like it could be a serious contender for the iPhone but it came a little late and as has already been said about the HTC Desire, Apple's continued domination of the market put paid to that possibility. It still looks like an amazing device though, and I'd love to get my hands on one and see what it can do.

I want one, but it's been Vetoed by She-who-must-be-obeyed. :(

Plus the fact that I would have had to have bought it direct from Dell as O2 ones are locked to O2, and I'm switching to Three as soon as my O2 contract is done.

Why did she veto it? Too big? (no puns on pain of death)

Does anybody know if it's possible to use an android phone as an auxiliary display a la MaxiVista? I know you can run sideshow on an android phone but I would really like to use mine to display rainmeter.

    Nope, just too expensive.
I gave up when she started down the "When you got it, your iphone was the best thing since sliced bread" road.
