    Hello everyone,

Its been a fair while since I have been on here, my hobby has drifted from case mods to cars now. I still have a play here and there with computers, but nothing like I used to.

Anyways, I did have my laptop apart the other day, its a Dell Studio 15, when I ordered it there was an option for a 3g modem built in, but I didnt have the need for it then. But while I had it apart I found there was a broadcom modem in there, with a slot for the sim card and all.

Is there any way to get this working, it would be much nicer to use it instead of a dongle.

    Thanks in advance people!

    Love you all.

If the 3g module is present you just need to put a sim card in & you're good to go (after configuring the connection).
If it's just the slot with no 3g module then you'll need to find a module & aerials from ebay or a spares dealer

Thanks, after further investigation the card I was looking at seems to be for the bluetooth. I have ordered a Dell 5530 wwan card.

    Thanks saspro for the reply.

When I bought my XPS M1530 I didn't add the optional 3g module but (5520) added one at a later date. I think it cost me £110 for the module direct from Dell (yes expensive, I know).

Installation was easy. Open the case, insert the card into the WWAN slot and connect the already run aerial wires. Install the software using the supplied CD, slot in the vodafone sim card (a contract one that came with one of their white modems) and bobs your uncle...

Its actually quite nice having everything self contained and not having dongles hanging out that are easy to knock out at airports etc.
