This is what I do for wallpapers:

Type "jpg" into goole and do an image search, and specify the size (in your case 3840x1080).

You should find a few :D

You can experiment with different searches, eg a game, a movie, the name of a person, a design etc.

I read all of this link eventually and ir looks like

Standard mode - this will allow the widest colour gammet, so more colours but not calibrated
Game mode - switches off aspects of the monitor to increase response time but unlike it's 24" brother does fook all really as response times don't really improve
sRGB and RGB - (make sure a dell or adobe icc is set up) both are calibrated but RGB mode offers the wider colour gammet as long as what ur viewing is compatable ie able to be viewed in RGB. If it's not then it'll default to sRGB.

Exactly, I think for work I will replace my dual set up with one 30" 2560 x 1660 IPS monitor. Doesn't need lots of features just screen space! Maybe a cheap Hazro?

I disagree! I'd much rather have my 24" and 19" second screen than a single 27"

Its now second nature for me to have my main task on the 24" and then email/itunes etc on the second.

    omg, ginger gunsmith?

it's also now second nature for me to have my main tasks on the right of screen, then itunes/iplayer/VLC on the left. 2560 width :p

6030 width, and yes I do game on all my width, single monitor gaming sucks now. Triple monitor gaming is the future, and allot of games run flawlessly on it. When on desktop it is nice to have 1 monitor for web browsing, another for emails, and the other for running apps etc. I prefer the space of 3 monitors over my 3008wfp I use to have.

I plan to stick 2 monitors either side of my U2711 but I need to save up for a second 570 and 2 additional monitors!

    do this:

    1. Set your U2711 to adobe RGB mode. make sure all other settings are default.
    2. click start in windows, search "color management"
    3. select the U2711 display
    4. click use my settings
    5. click add, then find adobe RGB. if there is no adobe RGB, you'll need to download the icc and install it before proceeding
    6. select the added adobe RGB, and set as default.
    7. you need to repeat this with your other u2711 monitors separately.
    8. go to advanced, and make sure windows color system defaults to sRGB (not adobe RGB)
    9. do not click calibrate display! dell's factory calibration for adobeRGB is more accurate than your eyes.
    10. restart computer

game mode is useless and doesn't let you get most out of the monitor. plus the dynamic contrast is really annoying.

I have now done this and my monitor is set to use adobeRGB1998.icc as default, is this correct as the colours seem a little washed out compared to game mode. Is it a case that game mode is too harsh and I have grown used to it?

Less pretty colours in game mode, now you're seeing everything in Adobe RGB mode!

So am I set up right now then as just played bad company 2 and it does look fantastic compared to my old TN panel! I assume I am now seeing the colours that the game should be displayed in.

Assuming they didn't use TN panels to draw :p, then yes you are seeing the right colors... well just so that I am not going to be bashed by professionals around here: very close to it.

To really get the exact reproduction, you need to buy a color calibrator to generate a proper ICC profile matching your monitor (and not someone else, as this is what you are doing).

I am going to give this a try, and tell you if it's washed out or not on my side, or if it's the correct colors. Well "correct"... assume very close to them.
