Could you hook this up onto a virgin HD box as well with no problems

I don't know for sure, as I am not with Virgin.. let alone different country. But the U2410 has a HDMI, so it will take 1080p content, TV feed in your case, just fine.

The only thing you need to see if if you can have the audio output separately so that you have it feed onto your computer. The monitor has a standard 3.5mm audio jack which output the HDMI audio there, for you to plug speakers or your computer sound card line In. But I never used it, and don't know about quality, and how it works exactly. Definitely not surround sound that's for sure.. as you only have 1 plug, and I doubt it it's digital.

Correct, it's just a 3.5" jack for the optional Dell sound bar.

Also the HDMI port isn't HDCP compliant but I don't know if that means there's an issue with your virgin box. The DVI is HDCP compliant but then you definitely don't have audio.

Remember it's a computer monitor first and foremost so HDMI support isn't going to be as comprehensive as on a 'TV'.

I have a U2410 but I don't think I've ever used it's HDMI input. Both it and my 27" are hooked up via displayport.

Are you sure that the HDMI is not HDCP compliant? 'cause I cant' find any complaints about it.

In any case, you can get an HDMI to DVI cable and connect to the second DVI port of the U2410. Of course, your Virgin TV box must have the ability to output the audio to a different medium than the HDMI cable (RCA cable, optical out)?

HDCP is only used on blu-ray discs as far as I know.

Think I might get a 24 inch TV and the U2412 then.

I don't think so. My Sony TV makes my Sky HD come up with 'This display does not support HDCP' Not to go off topic, though. I don't know about Virgin.

Check out the specs, says DVI is HDCP, but doesn't mention it against HDMI. That doesn't conclude it for certain though and I've not tested things on my U2410, but I'd read it on other forums that there were issues...

Personally I think it would be weird if it didn't support HDCP. So I'll change my 'It doesn't support HDCP' statement to 'Some say it doesn't support HDCP so do check if that's important to you'

Like I said, you can use HDMI to DVI cable. The U2410 has 2x DVI ports. So one you can use for your computer and the other for your Virgin box.
The only thing you need to check is if the Virgin box allows you to send audio NOT through HDMI, like using RCA outputs, which you can use to plug it to the Line In of your sound card.

A 24inch TV means you'll get 720p They are no 32inch or bellow at 1080p
