Some time ago we all started getting excited over Dells plans to supply cases specifically to the enthusiast market. After seeming the images almost everyone agreed that they looked pretty sweet. No one can argue that they are a significant step away from Dells standard case design: Dell are aiming this case at users who like to "Tinker" with computers. I think we were all sure that Dell would be selling this case individually and to an extent they are...but there are a number of other parts thrown in for the $1990 starting price. Check out Dell's USA website for more It's the nicest case I have ever seen and the features are pretty cool, but the starting price is horrible. I want this without any hardware
I may actually do that. I have all the goodies for a badass Dell conversion, this MIGHT JUST be worth it, since it's supposed to be ATX compatible... AMD XPS anyone? And the barebones comes in at 1120. Quite a decent price for what it comes with...
It's BTX apparently, but how did you get a barebone price of $1120? Sell all the stuff that comes with?

It's different, which is why I like it. Is there any other reason we mod our cases? This one looks like a good starting point...
It may well be a good case now, But what about when everyone has them. What will be so special? They will be ordinary dell cases. its almost like, if there was only one dell original case, it would be unique since theres only one.
After further inverstigation this offer starts looking even more ridiculous when calculating the case price: Starting Price $1120 CPU $173 DDR $79 Case & One Year warranty cost:$868/£469 For the price of Dell's case and 1 year warranty I can buy a perfectly good case, the same CPU and far superior DDR2 memory: Of Course this could be done even more cheaply by changing the case and ADDING a PSU: That system wont win any design awards but its a common sense system with huge potential. Dell seriously need to get their act together because this is not for enthusiasts you muppets!
I'm going to start building a replacement for my AMD box this fall and it always bugs me that PC cases are such crap. I'd pay $350 for a good case like the XPS 700 but that's all I want. When I look at the fit and finish of some cases, I start thinking that the cardboard box it came in was probably better build. Everything plastic, specially the "chrome" and other stupid doo-dads. What's the point. The XPS 700 case is clean and simple, not to mention having some seemingly good engineering behind it. Doesn't there have to be better cases out there without spending $1100 to get this?
Yes it is. This case is about being the best-looking case (to *some*), and forking out the spondoolies for it. We're not talking about simply finding any case we can, especially not a god damned stacker. We're talking about the piéce de résistánce of cases.
Whether its a stacker, XPS 7000 or whatever.....you have to look at the 400+ spondoolys for this thing. Now an enthusiast is surely more concerned ot what in the box, than how the box looks! cheeky dig about the stacker....hmmmm I will be thinking what to do with my extra £300!
Yeah, I've looked at them. Stupid plastic doors that snap-off, edges seem to have been cut using a hacksaw and fake chrome over the whole thing. The point is that if I'm blowing $1,000 for a CPU, don't you think that I might willing to drop an extra $200 for a better case for it? Am I the majority? No. Is there still enough people out there that would pay $350 or $400 for a case like the XPS 700, Apple PowerMac G5 or a VooDoo (yeah, I know that it's a Lian Li)? Yeah. How many people buy a Ferrari and park it on the street?
If you're a real enthusiast, who likes to have a good-looking system as well, you buy yourself the best of components to put into the best-looking case of allof them. As for the Stacker - don't start, it's an awful looking case imho with a serious premium for nothing. Nothing.
