So far I have d/l this to my hard drive and then to a floppy. Can someone please tell me how to use this after that? Do I just stick the floppy in a bootup and then the floppy does the rest?
I have never used this before and I wanted a step by step info on exactly how you have to do it. I don't have a PC i can try it on that is why i ask for this info. tks
So why do you want to use the utility? Running it will erase all data on the test machine. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q103049
tks for that...I quess I am looking for the wrong thing. What I am looking for is a program, not delpart, in which I can put floppy in at bootup with some program on it that will allow me to delete what's on the hard drive before the OS, thats on the HD, shows up on my desktop. Can someone help me out with this please? TIA
You need to make a boot floppy (also known as a system floppy) and make sure the PC BIOS boot order is set to look for a bootable disk in the floppy drive before the hard drive. You can make the floppy from XP's Explorer or better, go to Bootdisk.com and get the 98SE image, which includes format.com, fdisk.exe and cd-rom drivers, as well as a few tools. If the hard drive is NTFS formatted you can add the delpart program to the floppy and use that first. To use, shut the PC down, insert the floppy, start the PC. Should boot to an A:> prompt.
delpart? I've never heard of it but from the sounds of this discussion it's a utility to help you view NTFS formatted partitions in DOS, normally if I am trying to format such a drive before OS installation I just use fdisk to delete the partitions and then recreate them as necessary - this may save hassle of dling various external utils onto the boot disk and then working out how to use them.
