 any one ever seen the commercial for the auto nail feeding hammer? well they use a magnet to grab the nail then u use the magenet to start the nail. after witch u hit it with the hammer part. never buy one of these, they will only last a day or less with the impact of the nail hitting the magnet.
btw the simplest way to demagnetize ur toolz if ur lazy, just hit it with a hammer till it dont work no more, carful not to break ur tools. (i demagnetized a screw driver on accedent :worried: )

After months of clumsy people at work, almost all of the screwdrivers etc are now non magentic and it gets annoying when you've gotta screw a cable bracket in or a limit stop falls out....

We *accidentally* put a huge magnet (You could hang off it if it was put ona filing cabinet) ontop of a desktop pc at secondary school.... you could hear a loud *clunk* sound, the screen went funny colours... we removed it and all was fine........

... for about a week.... after that the pc clunked al the time and the monitor had a slight purple tint to it... :worried: :worried: :worried:
So kids, computers and magnets dont mix :p :p

My mom uses the thing so that’s not likely to happen. I guess she can learn to get use to the purple spot on the side of the thing…

An Example of a number of suggestions found within 5 mins on google:
I admit I struggled a bit getting the google page open in ie and then had to camp out for the night mid-way through typing 'degaussing a monitor', but through much struggle and hardship I eventually made it to the results page. I am currently seeking government funding for the attempt to click a few more links... :thumb:

    the dog demagnetiser

    you guys
i really thought youd all know better, lets work this out logically
we tried throwing the driver at the floor, the result was that screws still stuck to the driver, since we have put energy into the driver there must be some reaction, therefore if the magnetic field has'nt lesesened it MUST have increased. The same was observed with the brave fut ultimately foolish attempts to demagnetise using the dog method, however if we could throw the floor at the screwdriver this would have the reverse effect, unfortunately without a verry small planet or a very large screwdriver this would be impossible so the only option is....

throw the doberman at the screwdriver, i suggest making this easier by sticking the driver to the door od a fridge then hurling the dobermat at it till it falls of - or the doberman sticks to the fridge

You're all nuts. Use a magnetiser or a magnet :eyebrow:

Are you kidding!?! That would be WAY too easy. It would be legal. We have to demagnetize in a dificult, illegal way

Just to add to the argument, I work at a medium sized comp manufacturer in the uk, ('cept today coz I'm skiving a day off ;), and we use magnatized screwdrivers for everything. Mind you, when it's not your components you don't care as much, and then find out just how hardy computers can be:
Dropped a harddrive 6 feet to the floor, still worked (well, ghost ran fine on it).
Used a modem as a frisbee so it stuck in the side of a box, still, oh no wait a mo, we broke that one, and the time we tried pulling the ram out of a running computer (oo the pretty lights!)...on second thoughts, the moral of this story is: Build your own PC's, then you know some minimum wage ****wit (i.e. me) isn't throwing your box around ;)

i allways remove my harddrive with magnetic screwdriver that means a magnet which is in touch with a screw that goes inside the harddrive and that have led to no damage and i'v done it ALOT... it's 2 years old...

i also vaccumed my computers multiple times without anything happening to it... i don't use a rush though i can't see how moving air will create static electricity? oh well...

    /me grabs fuel

    /me adds to fire.

if i ever demagnatized my tools, that would be more damaging to my pc than using magnetic tipped tools. im a big clumsy oaf, and im *always* dropping screws inside my case when im doing anything in there, and they *always* seem to find the only place my fingers cant reach, usually under the motherboard..... i just stick in a magnetic-tipped screwdriver and fish them out. its never hurt the pc, and i dont want to think about what would happen if i turned it on and it had some nice conductive screws jammed under the mobo.

and as for the vacum thing trashing boxes...... youve got a big-assed fan stuck on top of your cpu blowing air over it at fast rates 24 hours a day. why people think vacuuming it for 30 sconds is somehow magicly going to suck special static charged air over it is beyond me. my box is a dust magnet, and i have severe dust allergies, i always hoover it out before playing in it.

oooh, wait... instead of demagnatizing tools, can someone write a de-dust-magnetizing guide to stop my dust-magnet pc sucking up every damn speck of dust in a 200mile radius?

I'm not sure if it's the moving air that creats a static charge on your vacum cleaner, but I know our (old) one does seem to give me some nasty shocks when I'm vacuming (which admitedtly doesn't happen all that often;)). Do avoid this touching the vacum to the case when it's pluged in BUT TURNED OFF AT THE WALL (the earth pin is always cannected on UK mains plugs i think), should dispell any static build up. As for cutting down on dust, I stuck a bit of muslin between the plasic front of my case and the metal chasis, not checked to see how much dust it's picked up yet, but it's not cut down airflow noticeably...
