For those who dont know, Mansfield Brewery is in the middle of being demolished. For those who did know that, it fell about an hour ago. Carnage photos to follow.

Apologies for the masses of photos, they portray it better with this many, and apologies for the poo quality, it was raining quite heavily and I was at a high ISO as it was starting to get dark on a naff lens :wallbash:

Did they knock it down properly? Seems that they've left the bottom half behind!

Cool photos, but that might be the most idiotic demolition job I've ever seen.

No their plan was to take the top off then remove it. Then take the bottom half apart.

Probably, they broke the link between machine and the wire twice one wire, then went on with two and brought it down. Bear in mind brewery towers support epic weights and will not come down easy.

Clearly more explosives are required. Much more.

    Any videos of this anywhere?

It's a non-explosive method. They just pull it down.

In that case, explosives were needed.

The brick tower to the right is getting blown up. You cant easily bring down a steel structure with explosives (would have blown off the side panels and the girders would have fell down, which is not great as the office im typing this in is well within reach of that building falling backwards). Especially one that was declared unsafe to enter well before demolition commenced. They could have at least put just a little explosive on it, to make the whole thing smoother :D

Unsure on make, they had demolition company stickers over just about all of them. They had three tracked excavators similar in size to a JCB JS460 except two had pneumatic jaws on, pulling with lines attached to the arm. In my opinion they needed 3 mining trucks and rocket launchers.

There may be videos pop up on youtube, there really wasnt that many people there as it looked at one point like they were going to call it a day and I wouldnt have wanted to expose a camera phone / compact to the weather at the time. There was a guy filming on the site but I guess he was just there to record it for H&S purposes and the video will probably just get archived with the demolition firm.

Edit: It sounds outside like they just hit it with a rocket and drove a mining truck through it :p
