Light Years is a distance, not an amount of time. So the universe is 15 billion years old, and 15 billion light years across. The distance light travels in one year = 1 light year = 10^13km. So the universe is 15billion x 10^13km across, which is big.

But not entirely correct.
The expansion that is the big bang was for all intents and purposes, omnidirectional. This means that while the universe is about 13.7 billion years old, it can perfectly well be several orders of magnitude larger than 13.7 billion lightyears from "edge to edge". So (even though it is pointless to talk in such terms as the universe has no real centre) if you were to stand in the centre of the universe, the unviverse would have expanded several billion lightyears in every direction since the initial expansion.

I have however, not seen anyone claim it is several "quadrillion" lightyears across... but the problem is that we cannot possibly know for absolute certain how big it is. We must take into account the amount of time needed for the light of these distant objects to reach us, and thus we are unable to see anything that is older than roughly 13bn years.

But yeah; it is big.
