Government isn't a left and right issue anymore. They're all close to the middle now. Only true left and right are BNP and Communist parties.

I live in Scotland, which means that I might as well assume the position I will have to get used to for the next few years, bent over with my legs spread.

Actually, ALL parties of any size are rightwing. lab/con are just variances on the same viewpoint and LD are less Authoritarian, but still quite rightwing. :(

    2010 viewpoint

And a demotivating pic as it is the demotivational thread, look at the labour position before and after 1997 :waah:

Since FPTP is heavily biased towards the biggest parties and against smaller ones, i hope you like your choice of authoritarian right or slightly stronger authoritarian right

Anyone in the media still claiming that Labour is a leftwing party needs to be shot IMHO

Also not necessarily true, with FPTP you can have more people voting Lab and still get a Con government, this is because we elect MPs and not governments, this article explains it well.

Not forgetting the significant amount of people, that because of FPTP, vote tactically rather than their first choice.

I've voted LD for the past 10 years, every single vote has been wasted under FPTP. My ideal party is the greens, but pointless voting for them unless i'm in the correct area.
(taunting time, i'm a short train-ride away from Brighton, where my vote would have counted for the first time in my life if i'd lived (or been born) a few miles away from my current location)

Give a proportional voting system and a few years for people to realise they can vote for what they want rather than against what they fear and you'd have vastly different vote percentages...

In the election more people voted Conservative? And Conservatives got more seats. I don't see where my statement wasn't necessarily true?

    fixed ^^

EDIT: good way to think of the current UK electoral system is to imagine a race:

The fastest runners get given free red bull, more if they're further ahead. (ie. A boost for the fastest)

Whilst those falling behind get lead weights to carry, the further behind they are the greater the burden. (ie. a brake for the slowest)

    A very fair system

Your statement wasn't necessarily true because it is possible for less people to vote conservative than voted for labour but for the conservatives to win more seats and therefore form the government, as explained by the article I posted. I'm not sure that more people voted tory than labour, I haven't seen the figures.

To highlight this if we were under a proportional representation system where each vote counts to who will be in government, not for your local MP, then using the figures on BBC 2010 results for how many votes were cast for each party the seats would be as follows:

    Con: 234
    Lab: 188
    Lib Dem: 149
    Others: 79
Which is totally different to what the outcome was:
    Con: 306
    Lab: 258
    Lib Dem: 57
    Others: 28

Can we have more demots/funnies now please? The election its self was prolly too demotavating for our own good.

On a side note, do I need to be concerned if I know more than 95% of the games pictured in here (not the charactere's names thou)?
