Its bs. I used to think he was quite good with his mind reading abilities....hes very good at reading people but thats it. The trick he pulled off we could have done and then made up a BS reason behind it too. At every point throughout his "prediction" method - he had a way for it to be proved inconclusively, give us a single number, show your 24 people what their average values were, get someone independant to verify it - but he didnt. Its all a load of bullcrap really wrapped around more bullsh1t. He used the invisible screen trick and then duped the nation into thinking his wisdom of crowds was the reason behind it. If you dont see through that then wow..really wow.
I think the biggest clue in the footage is where the ball on the far left (when they're facing away from us) inexplicably moves up slightly in relation to the other 5 balls just after the lottery results have been announced.
Um.. How does he average the guesses of that many people and get the answer 2 for one of the balls... Doesn't that limit most of the guesses to either 1, 2 or 3. Such bull poop Did anyone notice the fake adverts by the way? That one for the new fragrances was so obvious Also, there was a line for the lottery in Sainsburys near me today. Methinks camalot gave mr brown a nice little kickback
2 is plausible as an average , since he told the 24 people that they were allowed to write negative numbers and numbers bigger than 49. At one point the average was 63 which I thought was quite funny =) I think the trick was probably just a split screen video overlay. The first minute or so of footage when he is entering the studio was prerecorded, and the live part was filmed on a tripod mounted camera with assistants off shot. Artificial camera shake was then added, the video overlaid, and the balls were replaced by an assistant, before removing the overlay.
Perhaps the final reveal in the series will be that the previous explanations were rubbish and that the real explanations are a lot more simple, but (some) people ignored the obvious and believed him because 'he's Derren Brown'. As he puts it, "it was just a trick".
I was really disappointed in this show - even if the main event was underwhelming crap (which, for all the talk, it was), he had the opportunity to make the rest of the show a spectacular based on the impressive live shows he does. I've been to a couple of those and they're really pretty damn good. Instead we get numbers games which couldn't have been more easily fixed; whether it's substituting mouse-marked cards or mice themselves sleight of hand isn't a good ending to 10+ minutes of bumf about fear-based decisionmaking. Somehow, the suggestion that something as boring as post-editing has been used wrecks the mystique of the entire affair. I look forward to hypnosis, though.
I'm still thinking it was a camera trick, mostly because the wobble on the camera just looked un-natural. Seems like it was on a tripod and the 'shake' was added after.
So, anyone just try the Sticking to the Chair trick? I tried it, totally properly, but felt nothing, shame. I'm just slightly confused as to what all the flashing subliminal images were about (the bloke on the chair etc.)
I didnt get stuck either, It was similar to looking straight at the sun for me, just black spots in my vision for a bit, so i had to get up and make a brew
loads of my friends' facebook statuses are along the lines of "didn't get stuck to my chair" (I did't watch it). Seems like it didn't work for anyone. Derren, I am dissapoint.
I felt very light headed and weird, heavy hands and stiff neck. Also a strange hot flush about 75% of the way through the video. The effect was considerably less on CH4+1 though but thats because the +1 in the top right kept drawing my attention. Didn't get stuck though.
He's a very very clever bloke! You have to admire the guy for making thousands of people watch this crap, with this many adverts, week after week.
Just watched this on 4 + 1. Absolutely nothing. My mate reckons the +1 logo was distracting and it wasn't when it was just on 4 with no logo.
I know a few people it worked on, didn't work on me but then this stuff never seems to anyway. I do like how some people believe his explanations, I can't remember which show of his it was but he basically says that part of the trick is not telling you how its done, the whole point is that you don't know if his explanation is true, not true or part of the trick.
He dosn't actually want people to believe his explinations, he just clearly takes joy in the the social expereiment aspect that people DO! The best thing he's done is the horse racing predictions, just proved how willing people were to believe in him, to the extent they stummped up their life savings to bet on a horse he choose....his de-constructing how he did it later was pretty good too.
Its all bollocks if you ask me. Didn't hear about the lottery thing, but the stuck to your seat thing that was on yesterday was definatly bollocks just done by actors. Its just entertainment IMO, although it doesn't entertain me.
Did noone spot the irony of telling people already stuck to their chairs, watching a show which claimed it would stick them to their chairs? He did what he said he'd do and he didn't even need the video.
So I actually decided to watch the lottery prediction, hmm he waits until the draw has been carried out to reveal the numbers. Says it all really.
