So we are doing extensive work in the house at the moment, see my other thread relating to this here. Its now time for me to start doing something with my study space. Will post some photos up currently but basically think of a long thin rectangle with a window at one end and a wall at the other. Its the only space available in the house for this use so I need to make the most of it. Main uses will be gaming, storage (mainly books and paperwork) and at some point studying as well. I have a chair but thats about it. There is some "built in" storage and shelving which is frankly rubbish so thats going as well. I've got plenty of natural light from the big window in front of me and as the room is north facing very little glare from the sun. However artificial light is somewhat limited currently. I will be stripping everything out, can lift floor boards if necessary and will need additional sockets. I will also be running cable for ethernet as well. Will follow with dimensions shortly but I can touch the long walls with both arms outstretched so I am very limited width wise. Any initial thoughts are welcome, strip out will be happening shortly but I am looking to complete around December.
I think you should tank it out, fill it with H20 and kick back in one of these with a laptop: Or were you after more hydrophobic suggestions? Edit: I know you'll never go for my idea even if it is the coolest. I stupidly forgot to accomodate your books and paperwork - how impractical of me.
Here is a bad sketch of a good idea, offset the desk from the back wall and have a nice LED up light detail
So dimensions and my oh so professional sketch of the room. You did both say a sketch lol Like it a little out of the box mind you Will put up some photos over the weekend As the above sketch Basically I will look at all suggestions (although tanking it out may be a bit difficult as its a first floor room although this is tempting Lighting will be very important due to the various different uses of the space so some expansion on this would be good as well.
Shelves on one wall and desk on window wall. Maybe bigger shelf above door and on one side and above window.
I've got the shelves currently and whilst it gives the space its not very practical as they need to be above head height to be able to walk through the room making it difficult to get to stuff. The window is also larger than standard size, dimensions to follow. Keep them coming though
Lol thanks for clarifying that was going to get confused otherwise Any help will definately be appreciated on lighting as its going to be a key part of the room Well unless I fit a lightning rod possibly not
I can help out with all aspects of surge protection as well which may be more useful to you (although the prices of decent units might make your eyes water...)
Some of the stuff my wife has been looking at for the new extension has been making my eyes water so I'm used to it I will definately need some surge protection so will be after advice for that when the time comes round.
That is no room that is a corridor. Just curious was it part of the extension? If so thats not really a great solution from a designers point of view.
