Thanks guys! I hope it looks alright and not cheezy or anything.... A scrolling matrix screen is what I see on everything, what are you talking about? 1101001110011001100011......
1 of 2 sidepanels done well, I got some work done on one of the 2 side panals. here's how turned out: I cut it out using a bandsaw and got the hard to reach stuff with the dremol. All in all it came out nicely but wow, it is really a pain to clean up that many metal edges, not to mention how everything on it is sharp. It still needs some cleaning from the tape residue. It's just propped up against the side so you can get an idea of what it will look like. It will actually be suspended off the side about 1-1/2 inches with green lights behind it. I'm gonna try to do the other one this weekend, wish me luck!
the only downside to this is you cant have 6 20' monitors on the desk amazing desk tho. ive wanted to add LEDs to a desk for some time now but i dont know how to wire em and my mom dosent want the house getting torched
Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments LOL If I could afford 6 20" monitors then I could prolly afford a better desk. As for the lights in a desk, if you have an old PC power supply and some cold cathodes I can show you how to have some nifty simple lighting in no time
Looks very good! As Cheapskate said a while back though, you may want to add a bit of wood near the back to prevent wobbling problems.
hahaah hwta a coincidence you originl desk is the same as my old one we must be long lost brothers... anyways that desk is looking amazing, arre you goingn to put a glass coat over the top of the paint ( the really fancy paint stuff that has two parts, like epoxy)? i rekon that would look preyy sweet, not that it doesnt already though. Kudos to you.
lol yeah 6 20 inchers would be SWEEET. bout a month ago i melted a project box cause i didnt bother to insulate the led legs (?) so it shorted and now she dosent trust my 'skills'
Heh, then you prolly know what happens to them after they've been took apart and put back together a bunch of times. It has gotten really unstable over the past few years. No, I am not going to put a protective covering on top of the surface. During the process of working on it I have set all kinds of sharp and heavy thing on it and I haven't had a single scratch. It seems pretty durable and I have always had great results from using the Rustoleum brand.
FINISHED! well, 99% anyways... Well folks, I actually finished this desk about a week and a half ago, I've just been too busy to take pictures of it. Here ya go: I tried putting LEDs behing the metal designs on the sidepanels, but there just wasn't enough light to make it worthwhile. The Black surface just drowns it out and doesn't let enough light to escape. I decided to put a backlight behing my monitor. Here's a paper rack I made with some spare plexi and chrome rods: I still have to do some cable management and wire in the proper power supply which I have but haven't put in yet. I'll wait until I get back from vacation next week to finish it up. Thanks for your help and support guys, Couldn't have done it without you all to motivate me
The second pic is my fav...GREAT JOB!!! I like how the green contrasts with the black. I just wish now that I had the room to fit the desk that I was wanting to make . I is jelous
looks ace i love the led lights on it wish i new how to do that ive looked into it a little bit but it all looks very complicated if you dont much about electronics am i right in saying that?
nice magazine rack. mine would be filled with 'high times' and 'american iron'...if i had one that is. awesome build tho. im about as green (with envy) as the led's in your desk
Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it! @jamie 2k7 - It's not too hard just read lots! If you do it once you can do it no problem after that.
