i was just wondering, what is that you used to work the leds? a transformer or a psu? i plan on doing the same buy im yrying to find out how to wire the leds into a molex connecter.
I will admit, at first I didnt have high expectations for it. The pvc frame kinda threw me off, but Im truly loving how it came out. I think you said you tried, but I really like the idea of backlighting the metal if possible.
Right now I am using an old test PSU that I can regulate the voltage and amperage, but I will be taking an old AC adapter (12V, 1A) and putting a potentiometer on it to run the LEDs. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. High Intensity I know, the PVC frame was a bad idea. I guess you live and you learn. I am really pleased with the wood frame now. I wanted to backlight the metal soooo bad, but it just didn't work out. Even with the power of 2 ccfls it couldn't light it up enough. I might delve further into it on a later date, but for now I'll just have to do without.
I got it at Lowe's and I used a couple different kinds. I used a bit of layering to account for the LED's, but if you are going to make desk without the LED strip I'd go for a 5/8" or 3/4" sanded plywood. For mine I used a 3/8" base, 1/4" middle to account for the 1/4" plexi strip, and then 1/8" sanded plywood for the top to give it a smooth surface. I hope that helps. If you got any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
o really, could you do a little tut on how to, im not into electronics and i would love to learn. EDIT: i mean the lighting part
