    Here we go
Multiple Viruses..have damaged my computer after deleting them.

Such a simple thing you would think! I cant change my desktop background.
When I go into display properties..I cant browse or change my desktop background. Or even set a picture as my background.

Ive deleted a file somewhere down the line.

My desktop is one colour grey. with icons on it. And a new edition to it!!

A little red cross in the top left of the screen.

Please please help...as looking at a grey screen is testing my patience and everyday I waist thinking about it, takes a day of the life of the computer.
    before I smash it up.!!!!!!!!!!!!

    regards

    wesley :wallbash:

    classic!

On a serious note, a reinstall is best, unless you can do systen restore and use proper AV software rather than deleting. However your system ain't gonna be as fast as if you reinstall.

Check out this section of your registry

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\ActiveDesktop

    and delete all the subkeys..

and also delete the subkeys from here..

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\system

You should then be able to change your desktop background.
