We thought our mp's were bad with corruption, they have nothing on the European parliament, I think one of the broadsheet papers had an article about how the finances haven’t been signed off for the last 20 years or something ridiculous.

    Edit:
Was thinking that this thread would be really intresting if it had a poll, for people to add who they voted for, but are polls on here anonymous, as not everyone would want to put up who they voted for?

Went down an hour ago to the polling station and I was the only one there.

    Well put.

That is the bad thing about the European Pariliament; corruption is so rife in a supposedly advanced political system. Ridiculous...and how the EU puts up with Berlusconi, I will never know!

And Westovski...what? I assure you my intentions are quite legimate and morally correct!!! The common agricultural policy has bent over British farmers to the point of breaking (yet French farmers get more subsidies than any other EU nation, their land is more protected than any other EU nation, and they STILL complain!)....the 37 hour week stops people working overtime to try and get out of all this debt....EU health and safety laws are beyond comprehension....and that's just a start! On top of that, we have been a net contributor to the EU along with Germany and Holland since its inception - and it beats the hell out of me to work out what on earth we get out of it apart from sitting back at the end of the day and thinking "hey, Brussels redistributed some of our wealth to french farmers! Huzzah!"

Hence my opinion isn't racism - I just don't see how it's fair for the Britons to get the short end of the stick after ploughing so much money into it...and yet other countries who aren't net contributors, get ridiculous benefits and still want more *cough* france *cough*

In fact the only thing the EU has done for us I think...is the anti-competition lawsuits against Microsoft. Hooray for democracy.

edit: just to clarify, I'm all for helping the poorer nations in the EU, I think that's a great step towards a more developed world and better quality of life for everyone; but I don't think the EU should hinder our lifestyle worked hard for to get to that point - it's not needed.

I have absolutely no reason to vote except to keep the BNP out, and they'll never get in anyway. It makes no difference on the level of individuals.

According to Vote Match I should vote Green

Off to the polling station in a few minutes, still undecided.

That's totally confused me. I was going to vote Conservative or Lib Dem, but Vote Match puts them both in last with UKIP coming out top and Labour a close second

Now I really don't know what to do, I think I might not bother voting at all. Though I'll be the first to admit that I don't particularly keep appraised of current political issues.

As much as I hate it I think I'd find myself inclined to vote for the conservatives (old enough to procreate and soon-to-be-old-enough for the metal box of death but not old enough for the political system) bunch of inconsiderate unfeeling *******s that they are they do have some sensible policies and Boris Johnson has shown us that they can do some good.

That said our local conservative MP claimed £4.70 for dog food and almost the maximum amount on second home costs for four sucssessive years when we're connected directly to the london underground system.

I'll admit the same which raises the question: Is an uninformed vote an unhelpful vote and is a blind vote better than no vote?

    Yep!

While it is true, I like to think that I am more aware of current global affairs than a lot of others that do vote, and I hope I have enough common sense to sort out the bigger issues from the more trivial ones that many of the tabloids blow way out of proportion.

We had the NI election here today as well, just in case the rest of the world didn't know ;)

I did go out and vote, even if it's only to keep the party that I don't want to see in govt. out of it and not because I really believe that the ones I voted for will do any good or useful things if elected.

I must admit, I voted Conservative in the local elections. The local council is Tory and while they are not the best of the best they have done a reasonable job for us - but could do better :eyebrow:. My biggest praise for them is they have resisted all pressure to introduce 'Bin Nazis' to our area. They seem to have a common sense approach to rubbish collection and should be reintroducing weekly collections for all types of rubbish again soon (if they stick to whats been said).

Cock it. Only realised the elections were today this morning.
Never got a postal vote form through, and never got a card. Hmmm. May require some investigation methinks.

Oh, Boris Johnson - he's so cute...can't we just give him a fake political job where he can't hurt anyone and film him for TV?

It's not like he'd notice the difference...

Edit: I actually really hope the next election is more that 6 months away and then I can vote - and because of the expenses fallout my constituency will get it's first new MP since like 1983

Somebody give this man some rep! The most cogent and well-reasoned argument against all those one-issue parties is that they do not have any reason to exist other than to be racist, anti-EU, or otherwise grossly limited. They don't have economic policies, or education policies, or defence policies other than as those things are affected by their particular zone (which for the BNP is immigrants, for UKIP and NOEU Europe etc).

Maybe he just appreciates a tanned man... :D

    Just like...triple WHAT!

Most of the anti-EU outfits have educational, economic, health, transport and particularly defence policies that are solely relevant to the European Parliament and what the EU is trying to do........they haven't a hope in hell of making a difference in homeland elections, but where they are targeting to make a difference...in the EUROPEAN elections...they will...as that's where their policies are concentrated!!!!!! How you can expect more from them, given their manifestos are quite blunt and to the point, and then condemn them for not reaching out further, I'm not sure!!!

Yeah maybe they want to reach into homeland politics, but it's hardly an immediate venture for them is it!
