Just wondering wheter MAC addresses from macs are different to that of pc's? Would you be able to tell just by looking if an address was from an Apple Mac?
    Thanks guys

MAC Address (or BIA - Burned In Address, so called because they are set in the firmware) is a term for a unique identifier for your network card. They are in the same format reguardless of your manufacturer. Most of the time they are shown as 6 groups of 2 hex characters, cisco being cisco usually show them as 3 groups of 4 characters.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address

Whilst you couldnt tell if it was an Apple Mac or not you can usually pull the manufacturer out of the MAC because the first 6 characters are the manufactures/device ID.

http://aruljohn.com/mac.pl if you fancy having a look at yours.

In short no, they arnt different, and unless Apple have thier own manufaturer code, no you wouldnt be able to spot it was a Mac.

ok so looking at the MAC address of my macbook pro's ethernet adapter, the first 3 bytes are 0016CB.

even though apple use a variety of networking adapters it appears that (according to this: http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/oui.txt) the MAC addresses are indeed coded to Apple Computer.

so, it looks like you're screwed.

its not like its impossible to spoof MAC addresses, most NICs have an option for you to set it manually so its more than possible to clone an apple machine's address...
