could I use this http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=20-160-008&DEPA=0 along with the minty mp3 player everyone has seen(site is having issues) and make my own mp3 player. It is compact flash and that is what I nead correct? And using a basic stamp(out of pics at the momment, and want to use it for something)instead of a pic work?
mp3 player is an advanced project, so i'd do some learning about electronics first. you need to be able to solder surface mount stuff (if you want it portable), and have no problem with fault finding. The site is down right now so linking with http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cache:web.media.mit.edu/~ladyada/adatoys/minty/hardware.html Any CF should work. Stamp? ur kidding write? those things are just a *little* bit slow, stupidly expensive, and big. You'd have to completely re-write the firmware, enless you just used the PIC in the stamp, but even that would require some skill. It takes no knowledge or intelegance to program a PIC, belive me, i had to batch program 60 of them by hand last month!
Yes I do realize they are advanced projects, and I have been soddering for over 4 years. Ya, I knew the stamp wouldnt work but oh well. And I am guessing the flash will work. Yes I realize that pics are hell to program and such, but I want to do this, I have faith I can do this. And if I fail...the card can go to my camera and the other parts were just those free trial things so no skin off my back.
You're going to need to do a lot of reading up about electronics and DSP. The soldering alone isn't going to save ya PICs are NOT hell to program, that's the point TheAnimus was trying to make. They're very very easy to learn and understand, as are most similar level MCUs. Basic stamps are, well, just a complete waste of time.
