    7 Programmed Auto Exposure Modes

    Audio Dubbing

DV out / DV In (IEEE1394 compatible)

    Analogue In

    Analogue – Digital Converter

For still work they're not good, because the resolution is so low (between 640x480 and 800x600).

Electronic image stabilisers are a very poor substitute for optical IS, as digital zooms are a very poor substitute for optical zoom.

The size of the CCD means that the lens will never be particularly sharp.

In short, it will be fine for home video, but for stills it will be intensely lacking.

It depends on your priority. If your priority is video then get the video cam. If your priority is stills, get a still cam.

The Ixus V3's new DIGIC chip means it can record much longer movie clips than most still digicams.

The Ixus V3 will do up to 3 minutes with an appropriately fast CF card. The fuji will do 80 second maximum.

quite a difference-so will prob need at least a 64Mb cf card?

EDIT-now selling ixuz v3 for £329 which aint bad and 256Mb cf card for £60 (viking) or £85 (kodak)-so will prob get 128Mb as it cant be much-ne cf cards better than others?

Viking, Transcend, Ridata, Sandisk and Lexar are good. £60 for a 256MB Viking is a good deal. You won't regret having the larger card, especially if you are going to do movies, or using a larger than 2MP camera.

ive found with my digi camcorder that the picture is very sharp and good quality when playing and stills can be blown up to monitor size (as a background) and still look quite sharp. ive got a sony and its very nice. but it still doesnt even compare with my little fuji finepix. (which is extremely good for the money)

Depends on your definition of sharp really. I'm getting more and more annoyed with my Nikon Coolpix 700 because it isn't capable of producing as sharp an image as my 35mm camera gear. Consequently I want to replace the nikon with a canon digital SLR body and use my SLR lenses on it, because then I can actually have the control and lenses to produce a truly sharp image. The coolpix will absolutely destroy any DV camera at producing a still image though.
