Right... after existing with disposables for long enough I figured I could do with a decentish Digital Camera... I have a few requirements for it... Must use SD cards Must be good at black and white shots Must be able to do semi decent colour shots My use for camera: Gig shots, the odd snappy snap, some tech shots. Usually B&W for gigs but the few Colour ones too... Price range: £100-£150 Couple of cameras from argos that I looked at... Camera 1 Konica Camera 2 Samsung Which of those two would people recommend and why... also feel free to add your own ideas and such...
Out of the two you chose, the Konica is the one you should get... no contest. 4x zoom compared to 3x. It has a macro mode, which is gonna be very useful if shooting your computer bits, or modding projects... in fact, it's gonna be essential actually. Both are similar in resolution, so not much to choose there. You could do with seeing the output of both these, as resolution isn't the holy grail people think it is. Colour fidelity and contrast ratio are equally important, but you're not going to get info like that from Argos I'm afraid. My money is on the Konica however. Plus.. the Konica uses aspherical lens elements, which are only normally found in more expensive cameras. These allow for correction of things like chromatic abberation which are often exagerated in low end digital cameras because of fringe artifacting from the CCD. Basically, the Konica will trounce the Samsung quite comfortably, as the samsung uses plastic for some of it's lens elements. While optical grade plastic is not as bad as you probably imagine, such a camera is not going to compare favourably to the Konica. People tend to only look at the digital specs when buying a digital camera... this is a mistake. At the end of the day, it's a camera, and any camera is only as good as its lens. {edit} Wouldn't this be better in the hardware forum?
