So I'm looking at all these DIY digital photo frame things, and I'm thinking why not use an LCD as a side window? You wouldn't be able to stick a fan in it, but you would be able to animate it :)

It would need to be a seperate device to some extent, So it didn't switch off when you started a game up. Maybe USB'd into my rig so I can change the images.

Anyone here built a digi photoframe? Whats the smallest seperate device I could get away with? Are there off-the shelf interfaces so I could use the cheap into-the-TV thing I've seen on ebay? Or maybe fins a screen with a S-VHS input to use with it.

edit - Just the LCD with no backlight, so you could see through it.

    Any thoughts?

Well, those LCDs used for picture frames have the entire laptop inside as well to control it. Without the laptop it is useless. My one for example uses the laptop inside for all its functions, like storing pictures and connecting to my wireless network. Using a PS1 sceen would work because its controller is built into the back of it and it has S-Video input or can be modded for VGA. You may be able to get it to show stuff while in-game using a cheap PCI video card to run it off.

depends what you want to do on it... if its just pictures then a digital picture frame will do it... otherwise a ps1 screen or a laptop will do it... or maybe even a proper monitor?
