Sweet bebeh jesus this is immense. Mike Patton didn't need to do a full length in the end considering how similar this sounds like a metal-sequel to FNM's Angel Dust. This is an absolutely awesome album, I can't recommend it highly enough. Any search on google brings up a plethora of great reviews.

Get this, there's SINGING too. Proper singing! Ala Patton even. Fantastique!

    Just........UMPH.

Greg Puciato's vocal talents really do pee all over their former vox-guy Dimitri Minakakis and are easily on par with Mike Patton... And that's really saying something.

You'd be a chud monkey to miss out on this masterpiece. Oh yes.

I saw Dillinger Escape Plan live a couple of years ago and didn't think much of them, I'll give some of their new stuff a listen and then make my mind up.

Are we listening to the same thing here? Ive clicked the link, and played with the "Click to start music" down the bottom of the site link and every track sounds the same. Its pure punk and I cant say I enjoy it. 43% burnt started off promising then cascaded into crap within 30 seconds. Out of the 5 tracks NONE of them sold it to me im afraid. Definately not a scratch on Refused. The "singing" must be on another track not listed for free.

43% Burnt and The Running Board are old songs. Panasonic Youth and Baby's First Coffin are new tracks (the latter of which was on the Underworld soundtrack and is awesome - listen properly mofo). The two new tracks sound nothing like each other. Get yer ears checked man.

Pure punk though? Dude I don't think you've listened to enough punk to go round calling a math-metal act like DEP punk. It's about as far from punk as you can get.

The singing is on tracks like Highway Robbery, Phone Home and Unretrofied where it's so Mike Patton it hurts.

tDEP are awesome. Whilst hardcore of this variety is certainly an acquired taste, to say:
when you're publicly admitting that you've been to a System of a Down gig is a serious contradiction.

    -edit
BTW, did you happen to catch them on their recent UK tour, K? (A month or two back)

    lol, well said.

I didn't see them recently but I saw them in December with Beecher and Cult of Luna. An amazing gig, one of the best I've ever been to.

Whilst I don't usually get involved in these threads (Esp. with K and Penski), I gotta disagree here.. this is just white noise.

I was *so* prepared to give Patton a chance after being an avid FNM fan, so tried out Mr Bungle and tDEP. Shee.. come back big Jim all is forgiven, even with my pretty tolerant music tastes, it's a real waste of his talent.

Patton only did one EP with the DEP (Irony is a Dead Scene). So apart from that and the obvious vocal influences Greg has on Miss Machine, he's had no other creative input in the other albums/EPs.

I do love Miss Machine, but performed live, the Calculating Infinity/Under The Running Board tracks are far more entertaining. I've thought about it, and it's not just because I know CI more than MM but also due to the fact of how much simpler (and possibly how predictable) the sound was on those cds. A damn good album overall, though - for people who haven't had the pleasure of seeing them live with Greg, it shows how well the band have gelled and adapted slightly to his vocal style.

You really missed out on the last tour, K. Burst were cracking, Blood Valley were tosh, but Mono took the gig to a level higher than last years supports. Absolutely amazing, they were.

Hmmm Burst. I've got their last album it's class.

    To all you naysayers... YUOSUX.

I wouldn't judge this album by the two tracks on display. It's certainly not 'white noise'... It's extremely technical and incredibly well executed with a crazy amount of time changes and such.

I dunno, an aquired taste I suppose. Not for wusses in other words ;)

    /digs out underworld soundtrack

We can have arguments all day about classing metal vs punk vs whatever :p Youd probably win though :p

Hmmm.. its alright, but its still punk. Ill admit im not normally a punk person so obviously my judgement is far less weighed than yours but if you call this singing you need to go to singing class'.

Its not white noise (you ever heard death/black metal? Double bass pedals get SERIOUSLY tedious after a few tracks), Ooo hang on.. he can sing, 3:25 in. Its not that bad, just not for me and not as good as refused for audio quality.

I fear you're just getting your back up cause people are going against your grain and not at the point of no return as you seem to be after listening to it :p

EDIT: please note my copious use of smilies.

    Here we go.. ;) ;)

Technical? Sort of, played by numbers..? A bit like computer generated pop tracks? Technical, like, without feeling or emotion.. just 'notes'. :naughty:

    Roar.

Seriously though, you know I swing to this side of music; but this is too far out the other side, I can't like this any more than I can like the trash you get on TOTP because I just don't understand what there is to like about it?

Go on, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.. what is it that makes you want to listen to it? I ask because I'll never like it, but I'd sincerely love to know why people do.

I'm with Kna I'm afraid, really don't like this :( to me it is just noise, which is not necessarily a bad thing (I like drum'n'bass, which is just electronic noise) but this noise is just...displeasing.

Technical used to convey musical ability (well, the technical side of music: Timings, rhythm, instrument ability) as opposed to using a PC :p

Any band that can slip into 11/13 timing then to 6/4, back up to 3/3, 3/4 then 4/4 live whilst still staying in time with each other deserves a round of applause regardless of the genre in my books.

Plus, to me, they represent the music I was brought up on turning to a new level. Thrash grew balls and became grindcore. Grindcore got medical with Carcass. Bands like The Berzerker took speed and sheer 'heavyness' to a new level and tDEP have helped usher in a new wave where the focus isn't on sheer all-out double bass drums and lighting riffing but the intricacies of the music itself.
