I haven't been prompted for dirext-x 9 yet, should I install it anyway?
Sorry but I'm lazy and don't read up on things... I know it is for gaming and whatnot, but since I haven't been prompted, should I hold off, since it is one of those supposedly uninstallable apps?

And no, I don't have any games, but I do a little 3d rendering, would it be worth the download?

If the 3d software you are using can take advantage by directx, then upgrade (you can set a system restore point for disinstalling it ).
I use 3dsmax but I run it with opengl.

If you develop graphic apps, then it's worth installing.

At this time however, few games require dirx9, and I don't know if it's required for any graphic software.

Quite a few more now support dx9 stuff and advanced pixel shaders, especially stuff out in the last 6 months.

I would hold off until a) more software is out that can use it, and b) a couple of bug-fixed releases come out..
