hey so I installed dungeon siege 2 and its giving me one particular direct x error 0x8876086c
    symptoms:
random mini-freezes, pauses and ticks, game will not respond to any command for maybe 2-10 sec
after awhile it will freeze, never recover and windows will display that message.
even after that the game is still playing and the music continues to play but any attempt to alt-tab back in will display this message

    system specs
    amd 2400xp (underclocked to 1.3ghz)
    epox era2+
    geforce 6600 GT
1 gig corsair xms underclocked at 233 mhz
running directx 9.0c and the latest nvidia drivers.

Any ideas, this compy plays cstrike and bf2 perfectly (well it does when I don't have the cpu and mem underclocked) not to mention Doom3 and such. I love DS2 and I'm soo annoyed that I can't play for more than 2-3 mins without it crashing.
if its any help the game is just a ripped iso, but it seems to be a directx issue.

    A couple of questions,
    Why underclock to 1.3?
what do you mean by 'ripped iso'? do you have the actual CD?

have you tried all the usual suggestions, ie. reinstall direct x, reinstall the game etc?

long story short my cpu was flaking out, I have a 3200 but it would overheat in about 2 mins with this heatsink (normally I watercool) at any rate I just finished poking and proding in my bios, a few hard crashes and 2 bios flashes later, I'm running at 1.8ghz and my ram is in ddr 400 now. uhh the game crashes a lot less now, I'm assuming its something like a buffer under run error and that the increased cpu and ram speed are helping. Its not completely gone and yah I tried the reinstall haven't tried the game, and yah its just an iso I don't have the actual dvd (although the iso has worked perfectly on other comps)
