I am starting to update my computer to make it Vista ready. I am thinbg about buying an XFX 7800GT Graphics card, but am wiondering would it be better to wait until DirectX10 Cards become available or will the 7800GT be good enough for DX10 Games? Any ideas as to when DX10 cards might start to become available?

There are no DirectX 10 GPUs, and I wouldnt even bother with the prospect until the operating system is out. I find it unlikely that game developers will be coming out with DX10 games within the next two years either just buy a better GPU when the time comes for it; the mid range ones will be the power of the 7800 GTX by then and only cost like 200.

I wouldn't even bother making your system 'Vista-Ready' now, by the time Vista comes out itll be out of date anyway.

Buy your components for you present needs.

    Best advice, full stop

theres no such thing as "future proofing", if you are always waiting around for whatever's just around the corner then youll never end up getting anything :thumb:

the concepts of "future ready" and "upgradable" no longer exist in my view, its not like good old days when a new cpu socket type was released you can expect it to last for a good few years, ide was the only option and you never saw it being anything other than *the* standard.

^^ buy your components for your present needs.
