The car in the backgroun in shed is a 1940 Ford Deluxe. Got some more plates made today for the front end. Made the Shock mount set up bars. Next part to make is the Steering rack mount plate.
Thanks Got the steering rack mount made tonight. But had this happen when I was doing the big round hole. Was drilling then the drill stopped sping but the drill was still going. I was thinking the belt in the top had popped of its wheels so flicked drill off and let the drill go back up and the chuck fall off. lol. I was like Thats not right. Found out that the chucks just press fitted onto the shaft. Going to cut the 25bn pipe for the swing arms tomorrow.
Thanks. Done a lot of work on buggy today. Also got the shed cleaned up a little and got the frame into the shed. Race face. lol. Was just looking over the front of the buggy at what parts I had to remove for the new front end and found sum not very nice cracks in the steel. In the bonnet bars and the pedal rail. Good thing they are getting removed so will be replacing them. Had a rest so setup the spoiler on the back to have a look. Next the engine had to be removed. Had to lift the engine up then spin it to get it past the roll bars into the cockpit then lifted it to the roof of the buggy then move the frame away then lowered the engine. Engine out waiting to be cleaned. Started removing the old fornt end. Oh no I rolled. Hope this never happens when im driving it. Cleaned up the rear a bit got weld spots off and sharp edges. Cleaned up the front bar. Had a big think about this part. Cut and grind the plates off or replace the frame. Replacing the frame was the easyest way I could work out. Got a bit of the old side nerf bars to use for the replacement part. Recycling buggy parts. Nice New part in place ready to weld. One last play round before going inside. New front rails. Going to be in shed tomorrow again.
Got more done on buggy today. Finished cleaning up the rear of the frame. Also got the new front bars done. Made a wooden template. Then made both bars. Next I will be tack welding all together.
Havent updated in ages but here we go. Not a lot new done on buggy as I have been building the welder trolley. But got the new front bars in the lower of the frame aslo got the old top rails and shock mounts removed. Cleaned the bits also ready for new parts. Nothing big happening with buggy at moment but did get round to cleaning up the old front parts I cut off. Will be starting to do more on buggy soon. The welding trolley is about 95% done. Went into the shed today and this happened. Front of frame Back of frame. Welded up all the holes that the person started to do to hold the floor on. Im going to to be using tabs. Cleaned up the front part of the frame. Still got the do the back of frame. 200mm added to frame. Also welding the tube inside. Tomorrow going to get everthing ready to put it back together. Got 5 days off next weekend so I be busy working on buggy. Also been busy building a welding trolley for my Mig and arc/tig welders plus C02 bottle. Will have another update this weekend as I have got 5 days off work. 5 days building.
Update time. Spent last 2 days in shed working on buggy. got another 3 days off work so will get a lot more done. Back of frame cleaned up. Removed the old fuel pump mount. How I left it friday night. Its going back together now. The amount of hours or lining up and checking that went into it but worth it. New roof rails notched and have tacked in place. Slowly getting back together. Also I got this cool trolley off my Neighbour to borrow till about xmas time. Was looking into ideas on more bars but have changed mind and doing it a differant way. You will see in next couple days. Going to be making up and little bit differant front dash bit. Test drive. Made engine sound effects. lol. Lots of head room. Thinking I mite lift the seat a little or put of sliders. What do you dudes think?
Lots of head room is good, after all did you see Richard Hammond's crash helmet after he rolled that jet-car? He hit it on the ground, hard.
Agreed. Don't forget you'll want room so that you can flex your harness to maximum, and have your head pulled to its full extent with a helmet on. Looks fine.
It might have been quicker to just build this thing from scratch! I mean from steel tubing (inb4 someone points out having to first invent the universe)
Yeh it mite have been lol. But wheres the fun in that. Mod pc's - mod offroaders. Going to leave seat as is lowers center and lower to ground.
Right time for a update. Havent been up to much on the buggy the last copule of weeks. But last couple of days I have been going nuts sorting and cleaning parts also getting all new bolts, nuts, washers. Parts cleaned and given a got of black Zinc. Both swing arms back together. This is how the disc brake looked before cleaning and most other parts looked like this. surface rust. Nothing a Wheel wheel in the drill and some hand sanding founded fix. Parts going back togther. After putting this part together I found I couldnt get it into the rear of the frame and also remebered that it was hard to rotate the rear so did some modding. As you can see in the phot above the bearing housing plates go over the edges of the round plate. I can now rotate the rear so I can adjust the chain tension. My Next parts to cleanup also need to make or buy another Pedal housing. I also started looking into how to mount the rear brake caliper. Going to work on it this week also work on the pedals. The caliper I mite be using not to sure if its seved or not. Brought a set of covers to go over the shafts on the rear drive. Nice red. Thats it for now will have some more for you this week.
Wait, you painted the brake rotor? Wont that just all rub off the first time you hit the brakes, and just gum up your pads? But everything else is looking quite excellent, I look forward to seeing this run! Keep it up
The pad will rub the paint off the contact area, but wont get gummed up. Painting it helps to stop the rest of the rotor rusting.
Painted it to keep it from rusting up till I go to use it. Mite give it a sand off a little before I use it for the 1st time.
This is totally sick, keep it coming! I woulda gone with high-temperature red on the rotor hub and caliper, but then I'm a Brembo man...
Update on the buggy. Only little bits and bobs done. Still got tomorrow to do more. Engine mount cleaned up and new bolts. Going to be getting some HT threaded rod this week to make the engine mount bolts out of. Cleaning up the pedal boxes. Pedals all cleaned up. Just got to make some bushes to go in one. Pedal boxes all cleaned. Got some 100x50x3mm steel today to make a pedal box for the brakes. Start of the new pedal box. New pedal box made for the brakes. Made some more plates for the frontend today. Time for some more steel. Making the rear caliper mount plate. Still got to make the caliper mounting parts. Thats it for today. Going to be working on the frame tomorrow.
