Is it dangerous to disable the router firewall? If someone wants to hack me they need some kind of exploit right? They can`t just connect to my pc right?

I don't see why you should disable your firewall. Your pc can be accessed by people no matter how many protections you put in place, it's just you should make them not have an easy target so they will move on to another. They need an exploit but some many are open in your OS so yeah, good luck.

Think about this: If someone wants to gain acces to your pc they will. You can make it harder for them to get in, but they will eventually. Now, with that in mind, what do you have on your pc that anyone would be intrested in? Except use your PC as a Proxy or relay? Probably nothing ;)

So altough it isn't safe, you shouldn't notice it that hard... But, best to leave it on, as it won't intefere with most things.

Ok. The firewall makes things go slower, so it got to go:) Atleast i changed the password so no one can just telnet into it

My firewall regularly stops and reports attempted portscan attacks and such. I wouldn't ever leave it off.

Not that I know what a portscan attack is...

How have you reached the conclusion that your firewall "makes things go slower"?

I get loads of port scan attacks on my router too. I'd never turn it off.

The thing is, when i start cs source and search for servers, i loose my internet connection if the firewall is enabled:( It can`t handle the large number of simultaneously connections.
