Bouncing all over the place it's back to the side panel to test fit the RES.

The side panel will work as a surround for the res and incorp the light feature.

The res is traced and a over size hole is cut into the white side panel and the clear under panel

Some marking and cutting are done and some random pulling on strips of protective paper!

The clear under panel get the Laura Palmer treatment....

to have a final look of this

Cheers kim tyvm :) Still a loooooooong ways to go.....

A small couple of update this time.

    *RGB HDD cover
    *1<5 RGB power strip bus

Ive always wanted to make a RGB HDD cover and TBH i'm not sure i'll use it for this mod....

Using the same style as all the other RGB modding.

Another small/ish update...... i wanted to get back to work on the front panel and finalise the lighting.... but connecting 5 RGB headers into 2 of these (below) made no sense...

And after a pretty long search... there's not much out there that i can just buy... unless it's in a full RGB kit......

So i decided to break out the old etching kit and make up a my own.

As you can see ive done a bit of this in the past for car head light mods.

Just one is cut out and the copper pcb is sanded clean

The transfer paper is laid on the pcb

The wifey's old iron is pinched and some heat applied

With the pattern stuck the pcb is dipped into solution then drilled and some headers added.

As you can see it functions as needed...... but looks unfinished for this mod.

So it's off to the router with a small chunk of white plex and with some deft finger work a housing is made.

    Hot glue!

    Some D'sided tape

Taaa daaa ..... not the sexiest but still better than the crap in the first pic...

And finally placed in its new home. i may counter sink it a little for a more pro look.

A BIG Disco thanks to Gigabyte and dinos22 For Jumping on board with the their newest Mini ITX Board

The Z370N WiFi is amazing little power house and perfect for Disco with it's awsome D_LED (Digital LED STRIP HEADER) Combined with Fusion. Looking forward to doing a proper overview for the forums and working more with Gigabyte in the future.

I made the Z370N a cool little test stand for some pre installation benching.

Cheers Bill ty mate :) Gotta give the sponsors Some Lovin :D

    Finally an update....

Been a while but this small addition meant a complete new front panel..... another 5 pieces of plex. This time thicker again...

This is the 3rd complete front build..... that's 15 full panels 30 holes countless cuts and not counting the fails......... but hopefully it's been worth it.

I wanted to add something special to the front of the case a mod not seen or done in the modding community before.

Powered Dual USB front trap door.

After several different prototypes i ended up liking this one.

Before any real modding could start the USB headers needed some work.

The one on the left is pretty stock but the profile is too high for this mod to work proper. So some cutting and sanding is done as seen by the right header.

.With them modded the slim housing panel can be made.

This will be made from 3 sections top middle bottem

The headers are hard glued into place.

The connecting rods are scrapped from old CDROM drives

    And added as out riggers

Next is to Modify the new 5 front panels

Over to router #2 and the shape can be copied to the other 3 panels. The last panel is left standard.

With all the layers cut the new USB section can be added.

Groves are added for the outriggers to sit.

This will allow the door to swivel

To open and close the door a mini servo is used with a return spring.

A delay relay will also be added to set a small delay to when the pc is turned on.

The idea is very simple... when the PC is turned on power is sent to the servo via a small circuit this will open the door.

When the power is turned off the Servo will return closing the door. A remote can also be added for more control.

*** The return is controlled by a return spring... this will take load off the servo in the case a USB stick is left in the door when powered off.****

    Some still finished shots

And a couple vids! ********Pls turn your sound down*******

    Full Disco Mode!

Cheers guys I love pressing ppl's buttons :D

    *Blurb inc

I don't think there's anywhere really left for conventional case manufactures to go to anymore, like with every case we buy now the influence of us modder's is etched deep into their designs.
And im not really seeing anything new. Sure there's twists to old ideas but nothing really ground breaking....

Altho..... i think adding more electronics for simple doors and vents and panels to open and close is likely the next trend.

With that out of the way.

    I little up date, Actually i tell a " tail" :D

    A Disco Scorpion Tail.

It started with a pretty simple design. Some months back.... and had grown into what has ended up being almost a full mod by it's self.

Transfer the design to a piece of clear for a template.

Then transfer that Via router to a 10mm section of solid white

Again 2 more times in clear

Next up! some Exo Armour! (i like making up names)

Once all the Exo armour plates are cut and edge routed the back sides are first sprayed White and then sprayed black,
This stops light bleeding through them.....

    White

    Black

Next is to hollow out the solid white 10mm middle section.... this is to house the led strip and the ........

Next is to put some STING into this Disco Tail.

The Stinger will start out as a solid piece of 10mm white with a simple swing hinge added using 2 bits if frosted clear.

It's a very simple design but for it's purpose simple is best.

The Stinger has to be RGB! So some gutting and affixing of RGB happens

A hole is drilled for the wire's to pass thru into the main tail section

Quick test of that RGB goodness!

    Find a donor hing pin!

Chuck in a micro server and an old girls bike front brake cable!

    Work out the travel

Chuck in an RGB strip and route the wires through the side

Glue back the clear frosted side plate and Exo armour plates

Add some volts and a controller and BINGO it's Disco Time again!

Look's kinda boring now but once the top and sides are completed the theme will meld better!

And of course! the mandatory FULL DISCO RGB PIC FLOOD! :p

Cheers mate tyvm :D i;ll bet no one saw that one coming :p

Cheers Bill TYVM :D Happy New Year to you and your's also mate hope 2018 is a great one :thumb:

    I'd better post something :D

There's not a lot to love about Alienware gear but i fell in love years ago with one of their sexy top vented cases. I thought i'd rip it off and add it to Disco.

This is now the final build for this idea after 2 different prototypes.. and again in my usual style ive prolly waisted 2-3 weeks getting this to a decent working design.

It starts with adding a opening to the top panel.

Back to the router with some crude jig work.

To fill the new opening will be 5 even sized vents

The middle is the template then the other 4 are profiled on the router to be exact copies

    Again some crude jig work

    5 Perfect clones

    I Love chunky plex!

Each of these 5 vents will open to a 45' angle.

And of course will be RGB !

Still a ALONG way to go with top this mod but should have another update very soon.

LOL little did i know........ another 4hrs modding later..... Onward and upward !

Next thing to do is give the clear vent panels some matching white tops.

Back over for some more Jig sawing.....

Some temp d'sided tape and time for some router profiling fun!

A quick fit check , gaps are ok at this stage.

Next is to ruff cut and router profile a frame to attach the vents to.

The Vents are each laid into position marked and drilled for the swing pins.

To keep the holes aligned and straight a simple jig is made for the drilling.

I envy the modders that just draw this all up in a program send it off and have some one else do all this **** for them......

    Not!

one at a time bishop one at a time.

All the swing pins are counter sunk to keep flush

Some time later .... Ta da ! a real sense of " i can mod!"

To lift the vents a simple cam/servo method will be used. For now just to see vents will work a qick cam was made.

The lift is too aggressive and will be rounded to a fuller profile in the next revision.....

Also the timing has to be set better, as i want the lift to work 5>4>3>2>1 rather then all lifting @ the same time.\

A scorpion... with shark gills. The SciFi channel will be calling you soon about their next movie.
54321: I fear you need a longer case with that setup.
