This itch is like a dose of worms :D i cant stop scratchin !!!!

Cheers again mate :) your absolutely right no reason at all not to go with a plex chassis cept i got the itch to work with metal after seeing douglas alves's amazing 5th element build :p
    it's really just that simple.

But ! I started a small work bench mod last week where the build is just a rgb'd plex frame :D .... and started a new tail light mod for a local subaru sti owner... so spreading my time a bit thin atm :(

    Cheers mate tyvm :)

Spent the day working on a new idea, still not sure if i'll go with this style of panel or maybe change it to a clear one to work better with the Tail design.

Anyways this was just a test with some scrap 2mm white to see if the custom jig will work. Very happy with the first results and i'm sure i can clean it up better and straighter with a few more tries.

The Jig's up! I had thought of setting up for some vacuum forming... but for a one off idea that i may not use.... it wasn't worth the time.

The end result of the Jig is to make this!

    A fully moulded internal panel.

The making of the jig was pretty simple and ive use threaded rod to allow me to adjust height and even angle if need be.

Ruff cut on the saw then edges routed clean and straight. Then bolted to a base. With a centre threaded rod for alignment and tension.

A small press plate is made. Small as all i want to be seen inside the case is the CPU water block. The Heart of Disco Scorp.

As can be seen everything is set so the cpu will be dead centre of the case.

Threaded bar allows for more of less height adjustmeant

The make a panel some plex is centre hole drilled and laid onto the top of the jig. For the first test this is just a scrap piece.

Next an outer ring is clamped to hold the plex and stop it distorting while worked.

Heat can be applied using a hot air gun.

Once softened the the centre press plate can be slid on and adjusted down using a nut on the threaded rod,

I found the best way was to heat tension heat tension you can feel when to stop and add heat again.

when at the desired height/depth allow to cool and remove the nut and press plate.

Pretty perfect fit for a first go,

As you can see once fully sealed this will create a full rear chamber to duct air thru the working part of the case.

Hopefully be sexy and functional..... and Disco!

Still playing with lighting ideas :D

Holy moly :D I am absolutely loving this build - I've just been catching up as I've not been keeping close enough tabs on this, and I'm blown away. I normally hate RGB LEDs but this is superb stuff, and I love the work you're putting in here. The mechanical elements are super neat and unusual, and then to top it all off you're scratch building a case and deforming some plexi too?

    Bravo!

Well, I was thinking you needed to make your own cpu block top, but that confirms it. How well does that work with the other mobo cover?
Also: Plexi is so d*mn rubbery, you get warpage in the non-heated areas. Don't you hate that? Just do what I want, stupid plastic.

Cpu block was pretty much on the cards, actually looking forward to a diy block top been years since i made my last ones. Back then it was almost common place to make your own block tops. Nowadays not so much :(

I havn't had time to try a second run on the press, wanting to try some thicker plex maybe 4mm in frost. :D That should go a long way to stop warpage.
