A while back I tried engravin the case of my gas heater, its a black case and i thought it would look pretty cool with some flames on the sides and front, so anyways....I tried engraving it and the color of the engravings went from silver to copper in a day...I was told it was a result of oxidation or something like that. I just got a new computer with a black Gigabyte case and I really need to engrave it to bits (something about blank spaces, gets to me) and I don't want to try engraving it unless i know it wont turn copper like my heater case...please help.

It shouldn't since cases won't get hot enough.

What type of metal is it? If it's aluminium, it should be ok. In fact, it should be ok with steel as well.

I think i need to define myself and make things clear. the case from the heater is made of metal and i havnt used the heater since engraving it as it has beeen summer. so it cant be from heat, its simply the same as modding something else besides my computer, also in regard to if its aluminium, how or where do i check what material my dase is made of?

you could always engrave it then use spray paint clear coat on it, which would protect it from oxidisation/rusting
