Heavy equipment maker Caterpillar has seen red over a new Disney film which it claims portrays its earthmovers as "evil". The US engineering giant is attempting to block the release of George of the Jungle 2, claiming the film will damage its reputation. The company claims the straight-to-video slapstick comedy portrays Caterpillar earthmovers as part of an "evil attacking army" bent on destroying the jungle. But Disney - which has vowed to fight Caterpillar's trademark infringement law suit - claims the offending scenes are harmless fun. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3196864.stm Oh dear.... JCB will be after Bob the Builder after this! What next? GM suing over the potrayal of white vans with blacked out windows being part of an evil government conspiracy?
I'm currently a post graduate student in the School of Picking Your Battles University.... halting the release of this Disney straight to video is only going to anger the 5 people anxiously awaiting it's arrival in the store and the other 3 peeps up at 03:00 watching Disney Cable Channel #6 a month from now...
They do baby diggers for kids. Also there's a JCB ride area at "American Adventures" although JCB are british arent they?! But the main factory is near there.
Disney or Catapiliar? As said above, i agree with CAT. If they sell products to young kids that make them money and also have stuff on shows like bob the builder and other 3rd party companies investing in them, if suddenly kids see them as EVIL (lets face it, kids are EASILY influenced) and noone buys their products anymore.. well you can see my point. Generic bulldozers = yes. CAT branded ones = no.
It says caterpiller on it - whooptee do. How is this to damage they're repuataion? Are the kids going to take up arms and wipe all the caterpiller machinery out? Are they going to remember it in 25 years when some run construction yards? Hell No. It's a money grab or publicity stunt - jsut like what SCO does. Now, if disney just slapped caterpiller on it without bothering to get rights first, sue away!
What the hell? Of course it is. Stupid young Kids (lets face it, quite a few) are gonna watch the movie and see another product line as evil. This will cause a loss of profits to catapilar products that they would have otherwise bought. OR they will go out and buy cat products just to re-inact the destruction .. perhaps.
I wouldn't care less if it was the most outrageous claim ever to see the light of day, if it's a dig at Disney (sic ) then I'm all for it.
But bulldozers are evil! You only need to look at their eyes to see their full of destruction and hate. And anyway I think it's more important that kids of today know deforestation is a serious problem then that catepillar brand bulldozers are evil... ugh...what the hell am i on about?
the JCB world headquarters is i think in staffordshire, well the middlands. saw it (its HUGE) when i went 2 alton towers not 2 long ago. may i say again it was HUGE. not limo huge or americans dinners huge but like a green, steel box the size of the Isle of Weight huge in som random part of the country.
BNP, IRA, NAZI? all acryonums(?), evil maybe of just the actions of the people who use them makes them sunonomous (spelling?) with evil.
You know I don't really care. Im sure catepillar makes a bit more money on their "adult" products then there kiddy products. I mean If I happened to be beaten with an old hose and duck taped to a chair and forced to watch that movie or my first born die. Then I would say cool CAT's they can do anything. Why were they not up and about it over Grapes of Wrath. That was a catepillar, and thats as evil as it comes, poor okies....
