blimey, ive just been ripped off! just bought 5 x 1 litre bottles of distilled water from Halfords, came to £6.50! i have a 250mm tall tube res and 1/2" tubing, everything is going outside the case, do u think 5litres of distilled water and 1/2 litre of waterwetter will be enough for my setup? also, is distilled water just boiled water? could i have just saved £6.50? thanks, .icecube
5 litres should be enough. And I don't think, that destilled water is just boiled water; but what do I know
holly ****! i just looked at the dimentions of the eheim 1250 pump that should come tomorrow or monday. its f00kin h0000ge!!! .icecube
I know it's too late now, but check this out: MJ-1000 from http://www.cooling-solutions.de Euro 29.00 some data: 1000 l/h power consumption 14 W/220Volt~ hose fitting on sucking side Ø12mm hose fitting on pushing side Ø13mm size L x B x H 7 x 5 x 7 cm Pretty cool alternative pump for the eheim 1250!
ok im sure that distilled water can be made at home, bring water to the boil and cool it down - distilled.... i think, well thats what my mum does for the water she puts in the iron, and making distilled water is shown as this
i just hope 5 litres is enough. im still trying to get over the pump being so BIG, im a bit ****ed off tbh, but my replan has come out ok. thanks guys, .icecube
i was going to say/ ask that. My scince teacher said it is the same and thats how the do it at school, but an easier way? what that way is i dont know
I'm about 99% certain that boiling the water will not do it. Just try putting a pot on the stove with tap water and boil it till there is no liquid left. What you will have left is all the impurities, salt, calcium, and such that were in the water. Just boiling does not removed these. The steam is the distilled water. You need to boil the water with something slanted over it, which allows the steam to condense then run off into a container. The easier way requires you to have a condenser which can be quite expensive. http://www.voigtglobal.com/distilling_supplies.htm
i remeber talkin about this with titch....its called distilled water over here adn we can buy it in just about any store that sells regular water....but i remeber its called something else over there...but i dont remeber what....might help u guys find it in the store easier if i knew the name.....we can buy like 1 gallon jugs for like $3
He hit the nail on the head...welcome to the forums Willuz And Haddy...are you talking about de-ionized water?
Truly deionized water is actually more pure than just distilled. There's not a lot of difference, but deionized is what i plan on going with. For DI water, I think they basically start off with distilled water and then run it through special filters to remove any ions that might possibly be left. DI water is actually effectively non-conductive.
I would defo not wanna use the tap water from round here and just boil it up, i live on the south downs and all the water is filtered down through the chalk cliffs and carries a ton of minerals, get massive deposits of lime scale in our kettle/washing machine/dish washer. If u live in a soft water area boiling it might be enuf. I can remember making distalled water at school but can't remember if we evaporated and condensed it or just boiled it. De-ionized, De mineralised, or "That stuff u put in car battaries" Hez
icecube.. you got ripped off... I can buy a big bottle of distilled water from the petrol kiosk for just $1 (Singapore). If i buy it from Malaysia, it will be cheaper..... you sure got ripped off.
