i'm wondering how it's possible to coat aluminum with copper at an diy home basis. Can someone explain to me or give me a link that descripes that???
you are looking at either electrocoating http://p2library.nfesc.navy.mil/P2_Opportunity_Handbook/1_9.html or electroplating http://www.finishing.com/faqs/howworks.html the latter link also explains how to..
Ah it was electroplating i meant. Thx spaceraver i've been used the wrong word on google to search. (D'oh)
Short answer is no, not least because you need a cyanide-base copper plating solution, and in the UK and possibly many other places you can't buy cyanide salts without a licence. http://www.alu-info.dk/HTML/alulib/modul/A00354.htm Moved to Modding, this isn't a Guide.
You can probably get away with a copper sulfate solution, but i really think you'll need to do this zinc-coating pre-treatment business properly, due to the ease with which the aluminium could be oxidised in the electroplating bath. Personally, i would try anodization, if you want to electrochemically finish Aluminium.
