I tried to lap my heatsink a FOP-38, and well I balls it up. I got the finest sand paper I could from the local hardware store and started rubbing away..... 10 minutes later and now I have a totally scratched heatsink base. I have rubbed an alcohol solution on and that made it feel a lot smoother.

The question is if I use this with my processor am I likely to have any problems as I know heatsink bases are supposed to be very smooth?? The last thing I want is a shorted out chip right now. I need the all clear so I can put my FOP back on and get rid of this volcano 7.

Nevermind went to another hardwarew store and got the correct type of sand paper (600 grit) I spent another 10 minutes rubbing and now it's perfect I can literally see my face in the heatsink. :D

i got the guide here to do it if anyone wants to try it.

Good job! IMO it's always a good idea to lap most heatsinks, just to rid the possibilty of irregularities and ensure a nice contact for possibly better temps!:dude:
