Quick system spec (don't laugh too hard); Intel P4 (prescott) 3.2GHz E0 @ 3.52GHz Gigabyte cooler, can't quite remember it's name rocket maybe?? Abit A17 board 2x1Gb Corsair XMS HIS X1950 pro Iceq cooler X-Fi Fatl1ty Hiper Type-R 650W Antec 1200 0.82 Tb over 3 drives now i just stuck the 2 extra 120mm fans that don't come withg te case in last night and reseated the HSF with AS MX2 and set the new overclock by upping the FSB , no voltage increase and no fiddleing with the ram or anything ran orthos for 40mins to stress cpu and it didn't get above 56°c psu got to 65°c case a nice cool 26°c now my question is as i want optimal gameing poerformence is it worth pushing the CPU any further? also whats the best tool to use to o/c the GPU as i've not really ever had any success with that and what tool should i use to stress test the GPU? thanks in advance Rat1sully
ATItool is great for overclocking graphics cards, for a long time i used it on my old nvidia 8800GTS. It also has a stress test feature. Just dont hit the 'find max core' or 'find max memory' buttons i always found it locking up forcing me to hard reset it at the power plug. Your processor might have some extra speed, but it wouldn't be worth it and most likely become unstable. I would say that your current spec is at its sensible limits, if you are see any slow down in games then either drop the game settings or bit the bullet and grab some new gear in these friendly recession days.
Hi Unfortunately the X1950 Pro does'nt overclock that far, I got a exhaust blower underneath mine and I managed to get core from 580MHz to 630MHz and memory from 700HMz to 750MHz. It gets me a few more frames per second in some games, but has raised temps under load from 35 degrees C to 48 degrees C, but I sorted that by raising the fan speed from 30% to 70%, I can only just hear it over my case fans, and now its around 40 degrees under load. thanks for your reply's guys, i feared i might not be able to do much more but i'm stuck with the hardware i've got for now as i'm just about paying my bills will give pushing the gpu a go but if unsuccessful will call it quits at that i think and just be happy for now lol
