Been thinking about buying an SSD for a while now, and since the last time i checked Corsair doubled their lineup.

So i took a look around their site and spotted the R60, which is considerably cheaper than an X64 and provides the same read performance, even better IIRC. Write performance is respectable, but i hardly care about it since anything is better than my current old mechanical system drive.

Now for my question. This drive, according to Corsair's site is using "the latest" Jmicron controller. Do i want that? Does it have TRIM? I don't mind if it's not the best controller out there, i just don't want it to give me problems. My blurry memory tells me that Jmicron's SATA controllers were on the cheap side but their SSD stuff is supposedly decent. Am i on the right track here?

    Thanks.

Stick with the indiliux controller. And trim is essential.

Are you saying that the Jmicron doesn't have TRIM then? o_O And why is the other controller better, assuming they both have TRIM?

Was just going on BT and CPCs reviews of ssds. Corsairs ssds didnt appear to be as good as crucials and oczs. Ive just been looking at arias ssds they have dropped a little. Are you after a 64GB drive? And how much you looking at spending?

I'd really like to stick with Corsair here since i trust them and their customer service. Yep, 60-64 gigs seem to be the sweet spot for me.

The X64 has the indilinx controller, but it's quite a bit more pricy than the R60 for no real performance increase.

I don't have a fixed budget, just looking for the bast bang for the buck.

EDIT: Just looked at the V64, that one uses the indilinx controller aswell, only 10 pounds more than the R60 but has a 215mb read speed compared to the 250 you get from the R60. Hmm.

I'm shopping on Amazon since local prices are allover the place.

AFAIK i wouldnt go for the corsair as their trim support had been lacking and not going for the indilux was a mistake. Hey i love corsair products i have an HX850 psu afterall. I just dont think their ssds are up to scratch. BTW you've now made me order the crucial M225 64GB. Blast you! :D

Err, they do have indilinx based drives. I just mentioned a couple. Looks like blind man leading the visually impaired here, if that makes any sense. Hungarian sayings don't seem to translate to english too well.

Yeh but you said you didnt want to pay for the indilux controller. Also Bit Tech themselves have commented on the lack of firmware support from corsair. Im most certainly not anti corsair but their are better companies doing ssds right now. But its your money pal buy the jmicron drive and hope you dont get any stuttering and loss of performance over time. Better still read BTs review of ssds.

Oh and quoted read and write speeds arent the be all and end all of performance. Just check out intels Gen2 ssds write speeds of only 70mb but they are still fast.

    I don't think i said that. At least i didn't mean to.
See, that's definitely something worth considering, if the Jmicron does that. You could have mentioned these facts a little sooner. Isn't TRIM meant to fix exactly that performance loss over time though?

Info seems really scarce on SSDs at the moment, i can't even find a real review of the V or R series on google or wether they have TRIM or not...

Anyways, i think i'll just go for the V64 to be safe, it has the indilinx controller and not like i actually need 250mb/s reads.

    Thanks for the input.
