One of the LAN groups here in TN have started asking people not to bring their UPS' with them as they cause a power problem and trip breakers - I personally bring a small UPS with me every time because we all know a LAN's not a LAN without a breaker being tripped! :p

Anyway, is this claim actually viable? I can understand they *might* use a small bit of power, but to say that if a breaker trips and they see that you have a UPS that YOU were the one that caused it, and have a mob of guys pissed at you, and even more so since you're the only one with their computer still running :D .

I dunno. Seems silly to me. Everyone should have a UPS, then it wouldn't matter so much would it?

    That is totaly unfounded

The UPS trickle charges the battery.

Even while charging it uses less power then a powered-down monitor.

You can look on the UPS it's self and find a wattage rating that says how much the UPS by-itsself uses.

I would blame the people with cheap so-called 400-watt PSU's
(That don't regulate their intake power)

Good 400-watt PSUs of course don't take the power unless they really need it.
